Metabee Shot

Metabee Shot (メタビーショット) is a medal-based arcade game developed by Natsume and distributed by Atlus in 2001. The game has the player control a Saikachis and take on a number of other Medarots.

Because of the machine's rarity and the game being unplayable in arcade emulators due to its token-reception "hopper" mechanism being unemulated, the game is rather elusive and most information below is sourced from second-hand recordings.

Gameplay[edit]

Metabee Shot is a simple timing-based game. Upon inserting a medal, the player is presented with a number of Medarots and must select one of them to fight. The Saikachis is found on the foreground while the opposing Medarot is in the background alongside three crosshairs on the left, right and center fields. When the enemy Medarot moves close to a crosshair, it becomes active and pressing the action button makes Saikachis fire a missile at the spot the crosshair is at. Players must time their button presses to hit the opposing Medarot as it moves in the background.

When the opposing Medarot attacks, the crosshairs disappear and the player must press the same button in a timely fashion to block or dodge the attack. Players have three missiles per bout; if the player exhausts their ammunition, they are automatically defeated by the opponent Medarot. If the player wins, they are taken back to the Medarot selection screen to repeat the process.

The Medarot selection in Attract Mode

Some videos feature a different Medarot selection, suggesting which opponents the player can fight is randomized to an extent. As such, the below list may not be comprehensive.
