Medarot DS (メダロットDS), Kabuto and Kuwagata Versions, is an upcoming Medarot RPG game developed by Rocket Company for the Nintendo DS and published by Imagineer. The game was announced on September 3, 2009, and will be released on May 27th, 2010.

Summary

Medarot DS is a roleplaying game for the Nintendo DS set in the future from the previous games in the series. The game will use a similar battle system to that found in other Medarot RPGs, with the addition of fully-animated 3D battles and multiplayer over the Nintendo Wi-fi Connection.

As with every Medarot game there will be two versions, Kabuto and Kuwagata, where the version decides the player's starting Medarot. In the Kabuto version, the player gets the rhinoceros beetle-type Gun-Nose, who specializes in shooting attacks. In Kuwagata, the player gets the stag beetle-type Sanjuro who specializes in close-range combat.

The game's artwork, character designs, and manga series are being made by Horuma Rin, the same artist that has worked on the series from the beginning. A playable demo of the game was showcased at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show.

System

Animated 3D battles similar to those in Medarot R and wi-fi multiplayer have been confirmed for the game. Pre-release screenshots show a 2D overworld, character faces during dialogue scenes, and that battles will be controlled with a menu on the bottom screen. Screenshots also show options on the menu for "Library" (possibly like the Medarot library in Medarot 4 and 5), "Mail", and "Applications".

Newer updates have mentioned or shown the following features:

Medalias
Medalias are small balls that allows a Medal to get newer or better stats. A Medal can use up to three of them. They were released first during Medarot 3 as part of the new system.
Medarot Album
Medarot 4 introduced the concept of Library, an option in the Medarotch that allows the Medarotter to know what Medarots he or she has or lacks, including any Parts he or she needs to complete the Medarot. This feature makes a comeback with a new name: Medarot Album. It also allows the user to shift between 2D pictures and 3D models.
Wifi multiplayer feature
Using the Nintendo Wifi Connection (WFC for short) and wireless capabilities, the player can either battle via Wifi, trade Medarots via Wifi, battle via Wireless and trade Parts via Wireless. Playing online Robottles will grant the player Meda-Gacha Coins, used to get random Parts, Medals and other stuff.
Medals
They have new attributes. One example of this is the Kabuto Medal being granted the Power attribute.
Parts
Parts have new stats. The legs part has:
Mobility (いどう)
Evasion (かいひ)
Defense (ぼうぎょ)
Fighting (かくとう)
Shooting (しゃげき)
The arms and head parts have:
Success (せいこう)
Power (いりょく)
Charge (じゅうてん)
Cooldown (れいきゃく)
The head part also has "Uses" as one of its stats.
New stats
Set (しかける) (likely to replace Set-up (せっち)) and Help (たすける).
Medaforces
They are confirmed for a comeback, as usual.

Medachange, though, is not confirmed for a comeback.

Characters

Set in the year 2033[1], the main character, this time, will be Azuma Amakura (アマクラアズマ amakura azuma), who somehow is introduced to the world of robottling with either a Metabee or a Rokusho given to him by Ikki Tenryou, the store clerk so he could Robottle. For doing so, he is given to a cellphone where he can install an application called the Medarotch (メダロッチ) (known in english as Medawatch), which can hold information about his Medarot. These special cellphones, though, are developed by four different companies: CAL-KIN (from America), Gharial (from India), Gallotia (from Europe) and NQ (from Japan. Its model was revealed in Horumarin's blog)[1]. Azuma's cellphone is made by NQ.

Chitose Asakusa (アサクサチトセ asakusa chitose) is Azuma's friend. Her Medarot is a BCT-type Noir Katze. Other characters are Sakura Ooshima (オオシマサクラ ooshima sakura), who has a Peppercat; Nut Daitoku (ダイトクノット daitoku notto); Taruto Benii (ベニイ タルト benii taruto) who has a Doctor Study; and Azuma's rival, Kohaku Himuro (ヒムロコハク himuro kohaku), who has either a STG-type Machairodus (Kabuto) or a KLN-type Maasai Moran (Kuwagata). It has also been revealed that the Roborobo Gang will return, perhaps as Azuma's main antagonist.

Arika Amazake and Nae Akihabara will also appear. Nae will be replacing her grandfather as Professor Medarot, however Arika's role is as of yet unknown (maybe similar to Kirara's role in Medarot 2 onwards). It was also confirmed that this game's Referee will be Mr. Uruchi. yeah

Tinpets have changed their shape, for an unprecedent move made for this game. The first game that did a serious change to Tinpets was Shingata Medarot, specially to fit the new artwork. However, this time, the Tinpets have taken a new shape. Instead of having a regular size head, they have a small head, with enough space for two eyes. The skeleton is also thinner, likely to make it more versatile to new Parts.

Manga

The manga was released in September 18, which follows Azuma's story as a Medarotter. It is being released in the Dengeki Nintendo DS magazine. The first chapter of the manga was released on the official website in PDF form.
