Iwanoi (Spyke in English translations) is a recurring character in the Medarot series, introduced in Medarot 2. He is a member of The Screws and loyal to Kikuhime. Iwanoi is skilled in informatics and programming, and takes great pride in his reputation as a hacker.

Iwanoi favors Shooting-focus dog- type Medarots, with his best-known Medarots being Bluesdog and Cyandog.

Medarot 2

Iwanoi appears early in Medarot 2, having won the school's annual Robattle contest with his fellow Screws. When Ikki challenges The Screws and defeats Kagamiyama, he is the next to go up against him but is also beaten. He is defeated and runs away when Ikki's medarot unleashes the Medaforce.

Kouji comes to the school to look for the individual who has been "tickling" girls with a Medarot, he mistakes the Screws as the perpetrators and challenges them to a Robattle. He easily defeats their Medarots and Kagamiyam runs away with his fellow Screws, hiding in a class on the second floor.

After Ikki clears up the misunderstanding, Iwanoi steps up on the tribune in the school's playground and makes a speech about the rumours that a ghost medarot has been stealing parts in Mt. Odoro. He fails to get the crowd's attention, prompting Kikuhime to step up and declare The Screws will go to Mt. Odoro and claim any medarot parts they find as theirs. On the 2nd floor of Mt. Odoro's Marsh, he is found doing maintenance on his medarot in a narrow path leading to Kikuhime. When Ikki speaks to him, he is surprised and challenge him to a Robattle with his main medarot and a Mantaprey.

In the tournament on Medarot Island, he is is Ikki's fourth opponent in the Block B heats, using Bluesdog/Cyandog and two Mantapreys.

In the original Medarot 2, he uses Bluesdog, while Medarot 2 Core has Cyandog as his main medarot to match the anime.

Medarot 3

In Chapter 1 of Medarot 3, Iwanoi and The Screws are bothering Arika. When Ikki appears to provide her some back-up, Kagamiyama's medarot runs away and Iwanoi is forced to pick up the slack, challenging Ikki with Purple Collar in the first Robattle of the game.

When the RoboRobo Gang make their presence known at the school, Iwanoi deduces that they could not have been responsible for the magnetic storm that wiped every Medarotch's data and goes to his house to investigate. After Arika and Ikki captures a Roborobo, Arika decides to go to Iwanoi's house and executes her plan to get the Roborobo to reveal the gang's plan by submitting him to tickle torture, to Iwanoi's confusion. When the Roborobo explains they have been using the Mini-Mini Machine to make themselves small and cause trouble all over town, Iwanoi says this does not explain the medarotch malfunction and asks them to go away.

After winning the Medalympics heat at school, Kikuhime asks Ikki and Arika to check up on Iwanoi as he's locked himself into his house all day trying to find an explanation for the Medarotch malfunction. Once they enter his house, Iwanoi's computer program gets deleted and he is knocked out by Electra when she emerges from his computer. When Electra is defeated, Iwanoi wakes up and does not believe Ikki's explanation for what happened.

In Chapter 2, he and The Screws challenge Ikki to a Robattle with Noctocat, Rickturtle and Purple Collar once he steps out of the Medamall, as a distraction to steal his badge to the academy. Once in the academy, he steals a badge from one of the students and hides in a room (thirds vertical door to the right) on the first floor. Once Ikki finds him, he initiates a Robattle using Purple Collar and Danin, but is defeated and gives back the badge. He regroups with the other Screws and challenge Ikki to another Robattle with The Screw's three main medarots.

Spyke is the tenth opponent in the Tournament, using two Bluesdogs.

Medarot Brave

Iwanoi appears early in the game, mugging a kid in the Artic biome with the other Screws. When Ikki comes in, Kikuhime orders Iwanoi to fight him for the parts and Iwanoi goes into one of the attraction challenging Ikki for a direct Robattle with Bluesdog. Iwanoi loses and apologize to Kikuhime for his failure, but his inability to not call her "Boss" frustates her to the point of punching him.

In the anime

Medarot

Iwanoi is a recurring character in the original Medarot anime, portrayed as a member of The Screws and assisting Kikuhime in her antics. He is the single-worst Medarotter in Japan due to his Cyandog being mismatched with his Monkey medal and gets kicked out of The Screws on two ocassions due to his poor Robattling record. Unlike the games, he is not shown to have any strong aptitude in hacking.

Medarot Damashii

He appears in a similar capacity in the sequel Medarot Damashii, often taking part in Kikuhime's schemes to gain favor with Kokuryuu Kamizake. Compared to the first series, his incompetence as a Medarotter is downplayed.

In the mangas

Fox Kids Annual 2004

Iwanoi and The Screws steal the medal of Sugar Princess. Iwanoi and his friends taunt Ikki when he tries to investigate who is responsible for the theft, and when he says he's in a hurry for class, Iwanoi shoves him to the ground, which makes Ikki realize the tracks he see on the ground belong to their new Medarot Tankar and that The Screws are the thieves. When Metabee easily destroys Tankar, Iwanoi runs away.
