Plot summary[edit]

Chapter 1: Go for Gold! Becoming the World's Best![edit]

Ikki dreams of meeting a strange alien on the moon. After waking up, he runs errands for his family and encounters Arika at the 24 Hop Mart. A special broadcast from Yuuki of the Medarot Company announces a Robattle tournament with a grand prize of a trip to a space station. Arika goes to practice in the park but is harassed by The Screws. After Ikki defends her, a sudden magnetic storm wipes the data from everyone's Medarotch, leaving only the Medarots deployed during the event unaffected.

Determined to uncover the cause of this incident, Arika and Ikki begin investigating. They soon discover that the RoboRobo Gang's executives have escaped jail and that various strange occurrences at school and around town are being caused by RoboRobo goons, who have shrunk themselves using an advanced device called the MiniMini Machine. After apprehending most of the RoboRobos, Ikki and Arika prepare for the first stage of the tournament at the school grounds, but are surprised when Kikuhime forces herself onto their team as the third member. As they progress through the championship, they learn that the final team they were supposed to face was kidnapped and replaced by RoboRobos. After defeating the fake team, Ikki enters the school and confronts Shiokara, who is holding the missing team hostage. Shiokara denies any responsibility for the magnetic storm and escapes.

At Kikuhime's request, Ikki visits Iwanoi's house to check on him, as Iwanoi has locked himself away, trying to find the cause of the Medarotch malfunction. Shortly after they enter Iwanoi's room, the computer program Iwanoi was using is mysteriously deleted, and Iwanoi and Arika are knocked out by Electra, a being made of energy. Electra leaps back into the computer, and despite being unable to convince Iwanoi and Arika of what he saw, Ikki heads home to rest for the next day.

Chapter 2: Throwdown! A Heated Robattle![edit]

Ikki and Arika head to Medaropolis for the next step of the tournament at the Hanazono Private School. After checking up on Koji, Hachiro and Karin, they find that a substitute headmaster at the school has set strict rules, including forbidding entry of students from other schools. Hearing rumors of a new type of Medarot, Ikki and Arika go to the Medarot Company HQ. Ikki meets with Nae, who offers him to test a new model and then gifts him upgraded parts for his starter Medarot (Saikachis for the Kabuto version / Dorcus for Kuwagata).

To enter the school, Ikki borrows a entry badge from Karin but soon after he is Robattled by The Screws, who did it as a distraction to steal Ikki's badge. Borrowing Karin's personal badge, Ikki enters the schools and defeat The Screws, who'd been causing trouble at Hanazono, and get them to give back the badge. After giving Karin her badge back, Ikki returns to the school and learns that the Medals of various students, including Hachiro's, have been confiscated. Ikki find the stolen Medals and give Hachiro's back. Hachiro tells him about a spy Medarot who has been used to enforce the new headmaster's policies. This makes Ikki go to the headmaster's office, but the headmaster kidnaps him and makes him an offer.

Karin stumbles upon Ikki's dropped Medarotch and fails to hear his pleas for help. Investigating with Ikki's starter Medarot, she eventually finds him and give back the Medarotch. The second leg of the tournament starts and Ikki's team progress through the rankings, eventually confronting Koji. It is revealed that the headmaster had proposed to Ikki to fix the fight to defeat Koji, but Ikki and Arika pretended to accept only to plan against the interference so that they could have an honest fight. Ikki wins but Kikuhime leaves the team, suggesting to have Karin and Koji fill her spot. Yuuki accepts the modification.

When done, Ikki returns to Omikuji. On Hikaru's advice, he goes to the Medarot Research Institute and is invited by Dr. Medarot to a new section of the label, where he explains their ongoing research in the Medaforce and gives Ikki optional parts to test his starter's "Crafty Mode" and an inactive Medal called the six-sided Nummelite. Ikki returns home, but he is woken up by static noises coming from his computer. Electra appears and robattles him. After defeating Electra, Ikki goes back to sleep.

Chapter 3: Protect It! The Flower Blooming in the Depths[edit]

For the next leg of the tourney, Ikki, Arika, Koji and Karin are invited by Hachiro into the underground complex of Earth Mall. They are given a tour of the facilities by a woman named Seseri, but Ikki soon notices her strict attitude toward Medarots and becomes very upset when he sees a oversized Primity Baby has been kept static to supply the complex's energy needs. He runs aways and drop his Medarotch, which Arika picks up. Shortly after this, the RoboRobos make trouble around town and Arika heads to a stand-off, where she finds Koji mistreating a captured RoboRobo. Her and Koji robattle and Arika emerges victorious, handling the Medarotch to Koji. While trying to look for Ikki, Kouji finds Shikora and the RoboRobos trying to rob Geofront's Scientific Laboratory. He defeats them and learn from a grunt that the RoboRobos plant to take over Earth Mall by capturing a lot of Medals.

Kouji bumps into Arika again and learns from her that Ikki is in the lab he was just in. He hands back the Medarotch to Arika so that he can informs Karin. Arika goes to the lab and finds Ikki watching the worker Medarots. After she hands back Ikki his Medarotch and leave, Kogane, a worker Medarot at the Geofront Scientific Laboratory, hands Ikki a flower, which she claims she grew for the children at school. Ikki goes to the school and becomes acquainted with a professor infatuated with Seseri. Meeting with the professor, Ikki is told that Seseri grew her cold view of Medarots when the Medarot that raised her as a child suddenly dissapeared. Ikki checks through Medarot rental records and finds that the Medarot who cared for Seseri was Kogane. Ikki tries to tell Seseri Kogane's true identity but she doesn't care, instead confiscating the flowers Kogane had grown inside the lab.

After the incident, Ikki goes to the arena of the Medalympics and wins the next leg of the tournament by defeating Salami. The team learns from Mr. Uruchi that the next leg of the tournament is in the underwater city of Under-Shell but Arika is not yet ready to leave, saying they still need to take care of the RoboRobos at Earth Mall. Ikki heads back to Geofront and learns from Kogane that a cat has been damaging the crops. Ikki finds the cat in question, a being hostile to humans called Viridiana, making a mess in Geofront. Ikki eventually defeats Viridiana in Robattle, but she escapes. Soon after, a team of RoboRobos sneak inside Earth Mall's power plant and steal the Medals that keep Primity Baby' pacified, setting off earthquake that threaten to destroy Earth Mall. The team heads to the GeoPort leading to the surface, but when they learn the Medarot workers haven't been evacuated, the kids go back to save the Medarots.

Once there, the kids have difficulty convincing the stubborn Medarot workers to give up their post. The group eventually goes inside the reactor room and find Primity Baby weeping due to it being scared and alone. Kogane sings the lullaby she used to soothe Seseri as a child, calming Primity Baby down and saving Earth Mall.

Chapter 4: A New Foe Arrives! Black Kabuto/Kuwagata?[edit]

Ikki and his team go to the undersea dwelling of Under-Shell which, despite being ostensibly a residential arena, is weaponized like a fortress. Once in Under-Shell, Ikki soon finds that two neighboring all-girls and all-boys schools, the Mermaid and Merman Academies, are locked in a bitter rivaly. While exploring the Merman Academy, Ikki impresses some boys with his Robattle skills and they implore him to become the Academy's guardian against the girls. The boys give him a ticket for a trip in an one-man "Bubble" underwater pod as a gift in case he accepts. Ikki ponders if it's really right for him to get involved, but his hand gets forced when Arika grabs the ticket.

After playing hide and seek in the Bubbles with Arika, Ikki returns to the Merman Academy. The boys have him changed into the school's uniform and get him to participate in a Robattle on the playgrounds against the girls. After doing so and seemingly clearing his debt, Ikki goes back to meet Arika, who reveals to him she caught the principal of the Mermaid Academy buying a love pendant and persuades Ikki to gather information from her office in order to discover what is the cause of the rift between the two schools. After changing into a girl's uniform Arika gave him, Ikki goes to the Mermaid Academy and gets acquainted with the Sea Fairies, a clique of skilled Medarotters. Ikki impresses them with his skills and the girls recruit him to fight in another battle on the playgrounds due to the boys getting a new strong fighter, giving him another ticket to the Bubbless as an incentive. Ikki also investigates the principal's office and finds one half of a love pendant, which match perfectly with a similar object he had found in the Merman's principal office.

Ikki's Medarot partner suggests he gives back the ticket as he can't participate in a battle against himself, but when Karin bumps into him and is excited by the opportunity to ride into the Bubbles, Ikki gives her the ticket without thinking, locking himself into this problem.
