Kikuhime (Samantha in English translations) is a recurring character in the Medarot franchise, first appearing in Medarot 2. The leader of a trio of bullies called The Screws, Kikuhime uses her underlings and robattling skills to harass other kids and as such frequently comes in conflict with Ikki Tenryou. She is a sore loser, often refusing to accept defeat and making up conditions to nullify her losses. Despite her rough ways, Kikuhime does have a conscience and the sense to team up with Ikki and his friend against greater threats, though how much she chooses to display her soft side varies. She is also sometimes shown to be lovesick, longing for a relationship but struggling to connect with boys.

As a Medarotter, Kikuhime favors agile CAT-type Medarots, with her first Medarot Peppercat being the one most associated with her character.

In the games[edit]

Medarot 2/Medarot 2 Core[edit]

Kikuhime is introduced early in Medarot 2 as the winner of the yearly Robattle contest at Ikki's school's. She is known to use dirty tactics, such as claiming The Screws count as a single entity and that such one can only win by defeating all three of them. After entering school, Ikki (with some prodding from Arika) challenges Kikuhime to a Robattle.

Kikuhime orders Kagamiyama and Iwanoi to deploy their respective Medabots. After they are defeated, she transports Peppercat but is also beaten. Not accepting defeat, Kikuhime claims they were playing with "kid's rules" and challenges Ikki to take on all three of the Screws's Medarots at the same time but Ikki's Medarot easily blow them away with the Medaforce. Refusing to accept the loss, Kikuhime runs away.

After Kouji comes to the school to look for the individual who has been flipping skirts with a Medarot, he mistakes Kikuhime and The Screws as the perpetrators and challenges them to a Robattle Despite Kikuhime's confidence, he easily defeats their Medarots and they run away.

When rumors that a mysterious "ghost" has been stealing Medarot parts around Mt. Odoro, Kikuhime has Iwanoi makes a speech about the situation, but when he fails to get any reaction from the crowd, she takes his place and announces that The Screws will venture there and claim any parts they find as their own. This convinces Ikki and Erika to go after them. Kikuhime is found in a room of Mt. Odo's Marsh after defeating her Screws and she leaves without a fighting upon being talked to, complaining she got a sunburn while climbing the mountain and that she doesn't want to hang around the place.

In the tournament on Medarot Island, Kikuhime is Ikki's final opponent in the Block B heats, using Peppercat and two Redscarleths.

Her role is identical in the game's remake Medarot 2 Core, though her design is changed to match her anime appearance.

Medarot R[edit]

In Chapter 1, Kikuhime's role is similar to Medarot 2: she is found on the school's grounds having Peppercat do tricks and bragging that she'll be the subject of the school's newspaper for the third week in a row. However, when she sees Arika instead wrote about Ikki's encounter with the Phantom Retort, she is furious and has The Screws vandalizes the school's newspaper club. Hearing this, Ikki confronts them and defeat them in Robattle. Kukihime swears revenge and runs away.

Early in Chapter 2, Kukihime bumps into Iki and tells him she and The Screws had purchased the new Gorilla-type Medarot but when they played with it in a vacant lot behind the school until a man dressed like a pirate (whom they mistook as the Phantom Retort) appeared and stole it from them. When her underlings suggest to tell a teacher about the accident, Kukihime agrees and tells Ikki she'll let him go just this one time.

Kikuhime can be battled as the rank 11 Medarotter.

Medarot 3[edit]

Kikuhime is found early in the game, harassing Arika under the pretense that the town's park is The Screw's turf. After Ikki defeats all of the Screw's Medabots, Kikuhime notices her Medarotch's data has been wiped.

At the end of Chapter 1, Kikuhime forces herself in Ikki and Arika's team for the Medalympics, having intimitated the Medarotter Arika had recruited. She also suggests the team be named "The Corkscrews", which Mr. Uruchi registers as the name despite Ikki's hesitation. During battle, Kikuhime controls Noctocat independantly of the player. After winning the bout, she asks Ikki and Arika to check up on Iwanoi at his house as he has locked himself there all day.

In Chapter 2, Kikuhime and The Screws challenge Ikki to a Robattle after he steps out of the Medamall. This is revealed to be a ruse and Kikuhime has Noctocat steal Ikki's badge for the Private School, forcing him to borrow Karin's. Kikuhime can be found in one of the classroom on the first floor of the private school after defeating her henchmen, where she challenges Ikki to a robattle with Noctocat, Rickturtle and Purple Collar. Upon losing the robattle, Kikuhime begrudgingly surrenders the badge.

Despite this incident, Kikuhime remains part of the Medalympics team and fights the next two rounds inside the school's gym. After witnessing Ikki's battle with Koji, Kikuhime vacates her spot of the team, saying she'd rather be leader of The Screws, and suggests to have Koji and Karin fill her place.

Medarot Navi[edit]

Medabots AX[edit]

Kikuhime is the tweflth opponent in the Tournament, using Peppercat as her leader and a 2nd Medarot with mixed parts.

Medarot Brave[edit]

Kikuhime is introduced early in the game having The Screws mug a kid in the Artic biome for his Medaparts. They are interrupted by Ikki, and Kikuhime has Iwanoi robattle with Ikki for the Medaparts. However, he fails, and Kikuhime punches him for repeatedly calling her "Boss" against her wishes.

In the anime[edit]

Medarot[edit]

Kikuhime is a recurring character in the first anime series, first playing the role of an antagonistic bully to Ikki and Arika. After Ikki defeats her in Robattle, Kikuhime is an occasional irritant and troublemaker, although she is soon shown to have a nicer side, holding a crush on a boy and taking up ballerina lessons. By the end of the series, Kikuhime and her Screws eventually develops into surprise allies and friends to Ikki and his group.

Medarot Damashii[edit]

In the follow-up anime, Kikuhime reverts to an antagonistic role, frequently making deals with Kokuryuu Kamizake to leak information or assist with his schemes in exchange for improvements to Peppercat, although she eventually thinks better of this arrangement. She also develops feelings for Ginkai after he becomes a honest Medarotter.

In the mangas[edit]

Fox Kids Annual 2004[edit]

Kikuhime has The Screws steal the medal of Sugar Princess. When Ikki tries to look in the matter, Kikuhime taunts him and presents her new Medarot, Battle Tank. Ikki deduce The Screws are the thieves and Kikuhime launches Battle Tank against him. However, Metabee easily destroys it, sending The Screws running.

Note[edit]

  • In the anime and Medarot Brave, The Screws and Peppercat refer to Kikuhime as oyabin (おやびん, lit. "Chief" or "Boss"), somewhat childish slang for an authority figure. The English dub renders it as "Boss", while Discotek's subtitles for the subbed Blu-Rays translate it as "Boss Girl".
