Gatling (ガトリング) is a basic attack present in every Medarot game.
Gatling attacks involve firing a burst of rapid-fire shots at the enemy, doing damage without any added effects. In terms of mechanics, it works very similarly to Rifle.
It was also referred to as Chain Gun in the English versions of Medarot 2 Core and Medarot Brave, and Gatling Gun in Medabots AX.
General effects[edit]
Gatling attacks are always ranged (using the Shoot and Snipe skills), and generally fill the role of fast and simple shooting attacks. In the ealier games, Gatling parts tend to be slower and more powerful than Rifle attacks, but from Medarot DS onwards it is usually the lighter and faster of the two.
In Medarot 1, 2, R, and 2 Core, Gatling parts have the Shooting attribute, while in Medarot 3-5 they usually have the Speed attribute. Both attributes make them highly compatible with the Kabuto Medal.
In Medarot DS, 7, and 8[edit]
Gatling now has a much wider damage distribution than other attacks, based theoretically on the number of individual shots hitting the target. This makes it somewhat less reliable than before, but also means it is capable of sometimes producing very high damage. The average power of the attacks has also been reduced and the charge/cooldown time is faster, making it less of a "heavy" attack than it was in earlier games.
The CF attack version in Medarot 7 is CF Gatling. Medarot 7 also introduced a more powerful version of the attack called Mega Gatling.
In Medarot Dual[edit]
Here, Gatling works very differently from Rifle. It is one of the few "rapid fire" type shooting attacks that continue to fire so long as you hold down the button. The individual shots have low attack power, but they can be fired very quickly and each shot will damage a random part when it hits, making it a useful attack for wearing down the opponents parts evenly (or finishing off parts that are close to being destroyed).
Gatling parts have a high charge value, meaning they can fire off a large number of small shots before they need to cooldown, and their cooldown time is relatively fast. However, the accuracy of the attack is low (it spreads out, making it easier to hit with at close range), and unlike Rifle it does not make the opponent flinch when they get hit, leaving the user more open to counterattacks.
