Talk:Characters in Medarot Navi

Name origins[edit]

Character names in Navi are themed after weather-related stuff, for some reason. (They still sound like perfectly normal japanese names for the most part though.) Here's what I got with a quick pass through a dictionary:

  • Asano Kasumi: "Asa no kasumi" = Morning mist. When he's mentioned in Medarot 5, it calls him "Shinonome Kasumi", probably by mistake. "Shinonome" = daybreak, so it's the same idea.
  • Koharubi Hiyori: "Koharu-biyori" = Indian summer
  • Murasame Shiden: "Murasame" = A passing shower, "Shiden" = Purple lightning (flash)
  • Niwaka: "Niwaka ame" = Rain shower
  • Rainy: Pretty self-explanatory
  • Fubuki: Snowstorm
  • Mizore: Sleet
  • Gousetsu: Heavy snow
  • Nyuudou: "Nyuudou-gumo" = Towering cumulus cloud
  • Sekiran: "Sekiran un" = Cumulonumbus cloud
  • Smog: Self-explanatory
  • Kirika: "Kiri" = Fog
  • Raiun: Thunder cloud
  • Kazanbai: Volcanic ash
  • Shizuku: Droplets (of rain)
  • Tsumuji: Whirlwind
  • Soyoka: "Soyokaze" = Gentle breeze
  • Kosame: Drizzle
  • Hecto & Pascal: Hectopascal (barometric pressure unit)
  • Raiu: Thunderstorm
  • Harou: Waves
  • Kikou: Climate
  • Kanbatsu: Drought
  • Kyoufuu: Strong wind
  • Arashi: Storm
  • Tensai: Natural disaster
  • Nadare: Avalanche
  • Shinkirou: Mirage
  • Hyouga: Glacier, or "Hyougai" = Hail damage
  • Hiderin: "Hideri" = Dry weather
  • Tsunami: Tidal wave
  • Shinsui: Flood
  • Amaashi: Passing shower
  • Nigemizu: Mirage
  • Fuusetsu: Wind and snow
  • Kouzui: Flood
  • Gou: "Gouu" = Heavy rain
  • Urin: Rain forest

Others:

  • Aozora Middle School: "Aozora" = Blue sky
  • Mistral: Herp derp

These I haven't figured out yet:

  • Sachi
  • Megumi
  • Amamiya
  • Komechuu

We probably don't need these on the character list itself, but it'd be nice to put on their individual pages when we make them. ~ Kimbles 19:59, 23 March 2012 (MDT)

Name spellings[edit]

Some of the name spellings on this page are weird/incorrect...

  • Reini -> really should be "Rainy" IMO. It's technically spelled "Reinii" with a vowel extender, which is usually used for foreign words. :P
  • Amatsu -> should be Amaashi. Shi (シ) and tsu (ツ) look similar, but it's shi here. *nod*
  • Nigumizu -> should be Nigemizu.
  • Raiwu, Harowu and Kikowu -> should be Raiu, Harou, and Kikou.
  • Nedare -> should be Nadare.
  • Tsunkirou -> should be Shinkirou.
  • Wurin -> should be Urin.
  • Kozui -> technically Kouzui, so why shorten it?
  • Newdo and Rayun -> these are kind of neat since they match the original pronunciation (Nyuudou and Raiun), but it's still really weird having them as the only names that were outright changed to read better in English... :/
  • Miss Tanazo -> should be Ms. Tamawo, I'm pretty sure.

Just wanted to get these cleared up before they all get added to the Medarot pages. *nod* ~ Kimbles 08:46, 9 September 2014 (MDT)

"Before they all get added to the Medarot pages"? Eheh, you're a bit late then... I'll go back and change 'em if you want, but I'm gonna wait for you to confirm that's what I should do first so there's no misunderstanding. --CaptainGame 10:33, 9 September 2014 (MDT)
