Space Medarotter X
Space Medarotter X (宇宙メダロッターX Uchū Medarottā Ekkusu), or Space Medafighter X in the West, is an alter ego adopted mainly by Hikaru Agata, but also other individuals throughout the franchise.
He is portrayed in different ways in the anime and the manga, but in both versions he is shown as high-skilled Medarotter, also having heroic traits, high physical resistance and acrobatic abilities.
In the anime
Using a golden mask and a scarf, he is introduced as the Top 1 Medarotter from Japan, fighting along Arc Beetle, one of the most powerful Medarot presented so far.
Eventually, he is challenged by Ikki Tenryo in an official Robottle, but the fight was interrupted by a Roborobo Gang ambush. In order to save Ikki's life, he puts himself in front of a Shin Saber's attack, taking the hit and revealing he is in fact the Phantom Retort. Later, when God Emperor attacks, Retort / X brings the Medarot's attention for himself in order to make space for the other to leave. Even injured, he manages to push God Emperor to a cliff and tries to remove the Medarot's medal by force, being electrified by his defense system. The shock wave combined with Medarot's weight makes the cliff collapses, dragging both to the water. Missing for the next episodes, he appears again alive, under Retort's identity, to fight against Giant Emperor.
He also has a very important participation during the World Robottle Cup. He is recognized by Tawarama as the most unpredictable Japanese opponent, since he uses a different Medarot every time, being hard to develop an effective strategy against him. This is actually because his identity as Phantom Retort was exposed and he needed to find multiple substitutes to fight for him in order to not being arrested. The only time he fought in person was against Team USA, being replaced in the other matches by:
- Karin Junmai and Saintnurse in the exhibition match against Team Kenya and against Team Caribbean
- Kikuhime and Peppercat against Team France
- Kagamiyama and Keithturtle against Team Mexico and Team Sweden
- Iwanoi and Bluesdog against Team Egypt
- Karasumi and Belzelga in the finals against Team Kenya
Regarding the match against USA Team, Joe Suiham unmasks the Space Medarotter X as Hikaru Agata, the finalist of 8 years before and from his point of view, main responsible for the Ten Days of Darkness. After the battle ends and Japan wins, the police tries to arrest Hikaru, who flees without trace, leaving his golden mask behind and never using it again. Hikaru however shows up again during the finals, under Retort's identity, to tell what actually happened during the rampage last time, revealing the tragic event when he was forced to destroy his Medal's Medarot to save the world.
In the mangas

Space Medarotter X's name can be seen in the Robottle rankings as Top 1 on the list, even though he never appeared in the manga.
In Medarot R
He is one of the main characters through the manga, being one of the 26 Space Medarotters (having one for each letter of the roman alphabet). His main mission is to take care of Medal X and avoid the Clan Ankura to obtain it. He uses a shining mask, similar to the one used by Retort, and a coat, different from his anime counterpart. In this story, he fights along with his Metabee and a Tyrell Beetle.
In the games
Even though never mentioned in the games, in Medarot 3 Phantom Retort is portrayed using an ArcBeetle as X's anime version. Also, in Medarot 7, Hikaru uses the same Medarot, instead of Metabee. Possibly, this was due the influence of his anime counterpart.
