Medarotch
A Medarotch (Japanese: メダロッチ), known in English as a Medawatch, is a device and later an application software used by a Medarotter to give commands to their Medarot. The concept was introduced to the series in the Medarot 1 manga. The name comes from a combination of Medarot and "watch" (ウォッチ).
Initially it was a wristwatch-type device, similar to what we now call a smartwatch. When you open the cover that houses the LCD and buttons on the top of the main unit, there is a slot for setting medals. Medarots can be summoned within the range where radio waves can reach satellites, etc.
Medarotches can also be used to transport the Medarot's parts instantly from another location, or customizing the parts the Medarot has equipped, view data during Robottle.
Starting with Medarot DS, it's basically a smartphone app. Outside of the games, Bandai produced plastic lifesize replica Medarotches with a LCD screen and built-in minigames, and the replica was has also released as a mobile app.
In the games
Medarot 1
While Hikaru and Kirara are seen with a Medarotch in their illustrations, the Medarotch is not mentioned in the game. Instead, an unseen mobile phone (ケイタイ) has the functions that would be attributed to the Medarotch in later games.
Medarot 2
Ikki is given a Medarotch alongside his partner medarot at the beginning of Medarot 2. Unbeknownst to him, the model is an early production sample for the next iteration, which gives Ikki's Medarot the ability to use the Medaforce. After he returns from Mt. Odoro, Dr. Medarot explains to him this fact and announces the model has gone on sale to the public. From that point on, random encounters have the ability to use the Medaforce.
Medarot 3
At various points of the game, Ikki drop his Medarotch and it is picked up by another character (such as Arika, Kouji and Karin) in short playable sections. During these, the player character uses Ikki's Medarots and medals and the in-game menu changes to reflect who is holding it.
In the manga
In the Medarot 1 manga, the Medarotch was only refered as a "medal controller" in the series introduction, but is called Medarotch from the second chapter onward. Initially, it had a telescopic antenna and lacked a screen, the Medal being set directly on the Medarotch without opening it, and the time is informed by a voice. The Medarotch from the Principal is shaped like a pocket watch.
Hikaru and Kirara later changed their Medarotches to a new model that has a design similar to Medarot 2 and the anime.
In the anime
Medarot
In the first anime, Medarotches are portrayed as they are in the games and come in a variety of appearance and colors, often reflecting their wielders.
Medarot Damashii
In the first episode, Ikki, Arika and The Screws go to a production demonstration by the Medarot Company for the Medarotch Advance, a new Medarotch model which comes with improvements such as a realtime camera view from the Medarot's perspective. Ikki is unable to secure an order but meets Nae, who has some in backorder and gifts one for him.
A noteworthy information is that, unlike the games, a Medarotch can only command a single Medarot, needing more Medarotches if the Medarotter wants to command more than one Medarot. This is demonstrated in episode 16 when Yuuzuru Oozora needed an extra Medarotch to command Dorcus and Tyrrellbeetle at the same time.
Death Medarot users have their own Medarotch model, the Death Medarotch, which has a more jagged appearance but appears to offer the same functionalities.
