Metabee (メタビー), short for Metal Beetle (メタルビートル), model KBT-0, is a Medarot belonging to Hikaru Agata, the central Medarot of Medarot 1 in Kabuto version. Also starring in the manga adaptation and appears in the anime series. He is commonly upgraded to the Arcbeetle and Arcbeetle-Dash models.
In the games[edit]
Personality[edit]
Hikaru's Metabee has the same passionate personality as Ikki's Metabee, but is more child-like and notably more loyal, and has a stronger sense of justice than Ikki's Metabee. He uses simillar catchphrases as Ikki's Metabee, and he even gets along well with Hikaru's Rokusho. Unlike Ikki's Metabee, He is stoic and highly accurate and never talks during battles, usually saying something after the fight has ended(usually to Hikaru/Kirara)
After the events of the Ten Days Of Darkness, he survived with his memories intact, and is more focused. He never talks to anyone else other than Ikki and his Metabee, Hikaru, Hikaru's Rokusho and Kirara.
In Medarot 1 / Medarot Perfect Edition[edit]
A RoboRobo Gang grunt was searching for the rare Kabuto Medal when he finally found it. Excited to show his boss, he was suddenly hit by a stick thrown by Hikaru Agata, who was playing with his dog, Bonaparte. The distraction caused the grunt to drop the Kabuto Medal.
Seeing the dog approaching, the RoboRobo grunt panicked and fled, unaware that he had dropped the medal. Hikaru noticed the medal on the ground, picked it up, and decided to take it to Select Corp's lost and found.
Impressed by Hikaru's honesty, the Select Corp officer decided to let the boy keep the medal. At home, Hikaru showed the medal to his father, who was pleased to see his son finally interested in becoming a Medarotter. He then presented Hikaru with a Medarot Starter Set, which included a male Tinpet and the parts for the Metal Beetle model.
With his father's help, Hikaru assembled Metabee for the first time. After school, Hikaru used Metabee in his first robattle against Yanma and Kubota from the Bad Kid Trio.
In Medarot 2 / Medarot 2 Core[edit]
Hikaru still has his old Metal Beetle, which is first seen when Ikki Tenryou visits the condominium where Hikaru and Kirara Akita live.
Kirara is seen scolding Hikaru for not dedicating enough time to his studies. She forcibly takes Metabee to her apartment to prevent Hikaru from getting distracted, leaving Hikaru depressed and Metabee confused with women attitudes.
When Ikki is fleeing the Select Corps, he gets cornered. Kirara, in her alter-ego Retort Lady, appears and uses Metabee to defeat the Select Corp.
Later, Hikaru, in his alter-ego Phantom Retort, helps Ikki face Dr. Hebereke. The villain reveals his greatest creation, the God Emperor. Hikaru and Metabee manage to defeat two of the three God Emperors, but the last one reactivates and attacks by surprise, defeating Metabee and destroying Hikaru's disguise.
Ikki can also robattle Phantom Retort in Medalink, where Hikaru uses three Metabees. In Medarot 2 Core, however, Hikaru/Phantom Retort's Metabee is always the KBT-1 model due to the absence of the first model in the game.
In Medarot R[edit]
As Phantom Retort, Hikaru uses various Medarots throughout the game instead of relying solely on Metabee. Hikaru, as himself, can be faced in Medalink, where he holds the title of Medarotter number 1.
This game marks the first instance where Hikaru upgrades his Metal Beetle to the powerful Arcbeetle model.
In Medabots AX[edit]
Interestingly, the Medabot used by Henry in the semi-final (Metabee version) or final (Rokusho version) is not Metabee, Rokusho, or Arcbeetle, but Warbandit instead.
It is likely that Warbandit is actually Henry's old Metabee.
In Medarot 3[edit]
In the post-game, Hikaru reveals his Kabuto medal to Ikki, explaining that it belongs to his Metabee and is also a rare medal. This detail is consistent in both versions, even in Kuwagata, disregarding Hikaru's Rokusho.
Disguised as Phantom Retort, Hikaru challenges Ikki chase him with the two eventually meeting in the Under-Shell's temple. There, Hikaru showcases his Metabee, now upgraded to Arcbeetle, a model that Ikki has never seen before. Retort describes Arcbeetle as a king beetle Medaort and challenges Ikki to a Robattle, which Ikki wins.
Retort escapes with Arcbeetle to continue his quest for rare medals, joining forces with Retort Lady and God Emperor in the UFO on the moon, where they battle the Black Devil's Medarots. Ikki teams up with Arcbeetle and God Emperor, and together they achieve victory.
In Medalink, Phantom Retort is the Rank 1 opponent and uses three Arcbeetle in battle.
In Medarot 4[edit]
Hikaru as Phantom Retort now uses his old Metabee as an Arcbeetle-Dash.
[edit]
In Medarot Navi, Hikaru returns to using the old Metal Beetle. But he upgrades him to Arcbeetle-Dash in his Phantom Retort alter-ego.
In Medarot G[edit]
Phantom Retort and Arcbeetle are opponents that Koishimaru Tensan can Robattle. For some reason Metabee is not in his Arcbeetle-Dash model.
In the manga[edit]
In Medarot[edit]
Bonaparte goes to fetch a stick for Hikaru. When he comes back, he brings a Kabuto Medal, and soon enough, Hikaru's father gives him a brand new KBT-type Medarot. Hikaru does not give him a name until way later, when he notices he doesn't know his Medarot's name. Even though Hikaru did not like Metabee's name at first, his Medarot insisted on that his name was Metal Beetle and to call him Metabee by short. This caused Hikaru to name him like this, and this was his name from then onwards. Metabee is a loyal companion, yet a passionate Medarot.
Hikaru and Metabee fought many battles together, creating a strong bond between then. During these times, they befriended Dr. Medarot and Rokusho, who also fought as Hikaru's Medarot eventually. Hikaru and Metabee also fought against the evil RoboRobo Gang, ruining their plans many times. At some point, they were chosen to represent Japan in the World Robottle Championship and decided to form a team with Rokusho and Sailormate (Kirara's Medarot). They defeat Harvest, from England, and also Joe Suihan, from USA. The finals however were hijacked by the Roborobo Gang and a big battle royale begins between the RoboRobo's Medabots and the World's Representatives'.
As their last resource, Roborobgang summoned Beast Master to the battle, starting to destroy the stadium. Typhoon then ordered Beast Master to hit Hikaru with his blast, but in a quick reaction, Metabee runs to save his friend's life, being destroyed as a consequence.
After three months unconscious in the hospital, Hikaru woke up and reached out to Dr. Medarot to find a way to bring Metabee back. He was then advised to perform a "ritual" with other Medarots close to Metabee, in the city ruins where the first Medals were found. When all the Medals synchronized and resonate with each other, a duo of Aliens appeared and started talking with Metabee's spirit, asking if he wanted to come back to life. After he agreed, Hikaru woke up in his bed to find Metabee's medal completely restored. In the meantime, Dr. Aki had been working to fix Metabee's body.
Back to life, Metabee and Hikaru join Dr. Medarot and the other kids in a plan to defeat the RoboRobo Gang, who had hijacked the Select Corps HQ. In a fierce final Robottle, they were able to defeat a berserk Beast Master, bringing peace once again.
Both became the World Robottle champions.
In Medarot 2[edit]
He is never shown in this volume, only mentioned by characters from the previous volume as Rokusho and LadyJet. Sometimes he is referred as 'the Great Metabee'.
In Medarot R[edit]
He is shown in this volume as a stoic KBT Model with a scar in the left eye.
In Medarot 3[edit]
He is seeing in action along Hikaru's secret identity - Phantom Retort - in a battle against the Select Corps. In this cameo, only his silhouette is visible.
In Medarot 4[edit]
He is portrayed again as Phantom Retort Medarot, but referred to in this volume as Unit 01 instead of Metabee. In this volume, he has the same scar in the left eye as shown in Medarot R manga, but his personality is completely different from the original manga. Instead to be talkative, his movements are silent and precise and his stoic personality is in line with Arcbeetle's personality in the anime.
It is not explained why he is called 'Unit 01' in this manga, but one can assume that is because he is working under disguise, therefore using another name. His different personality can also be explained using the same argument, which also applies to Hikaru and Phatom Retort.
In this volume, he fights against Ikki's Metabee and, even with a damaged arm, manages to win.
In the anime[edit]
Prior to the series, it was Hikaru's Medarot all the way along. Both shared a close bond and became strong together. However, during the event of the Ten Days of Darkness, which happened during a World Robottle Tournament, Hikaru had to shut down his friend, breaking his Medal to save the world. He was able to restore Metabee's Medal afterwards, but he was never the same, losing his memory permanently.
The Space Medarotter X, one of Agata's guise, appears with an Arcbeetle, which is mentioned to be Hikaru's Metabee. It is an heroic but silent Medarot, and deals massive amount of damage with its special attack, the Prominence. It is a strong Medarot, able to stop Ikki's Metabee's attack without a lot of effort.
Metabee's Kabuto Medal is a rare one, and thus, he is able to summon the Medaforce.
