HeartRoll (ハートロール) is a Roll.EXE-type Medarot that was that was added to Medarot S as part of a collaboration with the Mega Man Battle Network series. The RME model number is from "RockMan.EXE," the Japanese name of the franchise, and Heartroll's name is based on Roll.EXE and Hearts, which is one of her primary design motifs.

Description[edit]

Heartroll is inspired by the NetNavi Roll.EXE. It closely resembles Roll, but with a Medarot-style mouthless and noseless white face instead of the original's humanlike face, and its left arm permanently in the form of the bow and arrow used for the Roll Arrow attack. It attacks by shooting arrows from the bow arm or energy from the bands on its head, and can also heal allies.

Heartroll's part functions in Medarot S are:

Part Name Type Action
Head: Heart Whip Shooting Evasion Seal
Right arm: Heart Hand Healing Field Repair
Left arm: Heart Arrow Shooting Rifle
Legs: Heart Boots Bipedal Emergency

Its head part and left arm are named after Roll.EXE's main modes of attack, whipping the opponent with the plug-like attachments on her head (Roll Whip) and changing one arm into a bow and shooting a heart-tipped arrow from it (Roll Arrow) but with references to the "Heart" motif. The other arm and legs are simply named after the heart motif and what part they are.

Origin[edit]

HeartRoll is based on Roll.EXE, a character from the Mega Man Battle Network series, an RPG series initially released for the Game Boy Advance. Roll.EXE is a NetNavi owned by Mayl Sakurai and is one of MegaMan.EXE's primary allies.

As her name suggests, she is a parallel universe counterpart to Roll from the original Mega Man series and the third character to bear this name, with the second being Roll Caskett from Mega Man Legends. Unlike her original counterpart, Roll.EXE is not MegaMan.EXE's sister. Instead, she serves as his romantic partner, with the epilogue revealing that they had a son named MegaMan.EXE Junior, who becomes a NetNavi for Mayl and Lan Hikari's son. She is also well known in the fandom for her Empress Roll.EXE persona from an infamous episode of the anime MegaMan NT Warrior.

Roll.EXE initially focused almost exclusively on support techniques, using only the antennas on her helmet for attacks. As the series progressed, she gained new combat abilities, including a bow and arrow.
