Karin Junmai is a recurring character in the Medarot series, introduced in Medarot 2. The heir of a rich family, Karin is sweet, caring and helpful, though she is somewhat oblivious. She is very popular among her fellow students and is a love interest for both Ikki and Kouji.

As a Medarotter, she favors healing-focused Medarots and is most associated with Saintnurse.

In the games[edit]

Medarot 2[edit]

In Medarot 2, Karin is shown to be sickly and easily tired-out. This character trait is dropped from most of her subsequent appearances.

When Ikki heads out of school to investigate the rumor that a Medarot has been tickling girls, he meets Karin, who had just been acquainted with his dog Salty, and is immediately smitten with her. Karin asks him if he has seen her friend Koji but Ikki doesn't know. As it turns out, Karin was one of the girls tickled and Koji has sworn to make the perpetrator pay. After Ikki and Koji conclude a robattle, Karin arrives and this leads to the two talking things out and Arika clearing up the misunderstanding.

Later, Karin accidentally wanders into the town's abandoned factory as Ikki confronts the RoboRobo Gang member who has been ordering his medarot to tickle girls, and compliments Ikki on his dress sense. When the battle is over, Karin notices the Select Corps members arriving at the scene and leaves the building.

Sidequest[edit]

Depending on the player's choice at various points, Ikki can romance either Karin, Arika or neither. If the player opts for the Karin route, she will give the ? Medal at the start of the postgame. Achieving Karin's ending requires not only interacting and pleasing her as much as possible, but actively displeasing Arika.

To achieve the Karin ending, the player must take the following steps:

  • As much as possible, do not speak to Arika unless necessary to progress the story.
  • Say "no" when Kikuhime asks if you want to battle The Screws at the beginning of the game.
  • A RoboRobo henchman is hiding in a tree in Odoro Marsh. Kick it twice and Arika will get mad at you.
  • At Odoro Marsh, speak to Koji first and then Karin 4 times until Erika gets mad. Speak to Koji again (his dialogue will change).
  • Battle Karin at Odoro Marsh and speak to her after the battle.
  • Refuse to go to the parade with Arika at Medarot Island.
  • When Arika asks Ikki if he want to ride the roller coaster, say "no". Speak to her again, but this time say "yes".
  • Take Karin to the Haunted House (do not go to the Arcade). Defeat all of the ghosts.
  • Buy Arika the Deluxe Oil. This makes her angry.
  • Defeat all 10 of the Rubberobos in the Witch's Castle. Two of them are hidden as Rappy Dolls.
  • Refuse to give Arika the S. Animal Rappy. This makes Erika angry. Give it to Karin during the boat ride back from Medabot Island.
  • Do not buy Arika a present from the Medamall. Buy Karin a hamster instead and mail it to her before saving Rosewood Academy. She'll thank Ikki for it after the school is saved.
  • Buy Karin's picture at Rosewood Academy from her fanclub. This makes Arika angry.
  • When given the choice between the "Right" key or the "Left" key from Koji, you have to choose the "Right" key and rescue Karin instead of Arika.

If these steps are followed, Koji will say it's "your turn to protect her now" when visiting Karin after saving Rosewood Academy. Once Dr. Hebereke is defeated, Arika will say that she is teaming up with Koji. Koji will then say it's Ikki's job to protect Karin (again).

To complete the path, accept Karin's invitation to dinner with her father. Ikki will receive the "? Medal".

Medarot 3[edit]

Karin first appears in Chapter 2. She can be found in the Medamall and gives Ikki a badge necessary to enter the school. The Screws steals the badge shortly after he steps, but Karin gives her own badge to Ikki and stays at home to do homework. After Ikki defeats The Screws and get back the stolen badge, he goes back to her home and gives her back the badge. In exchange, Karin rewards him with a female Tinpet.

When Ikki is taken by the School Principal for a private meeting, Karin wanders into the room they're in and notices Ikki's Medarotch but does not hear his pleas for help. During this section, the player controls Karin and must speak with various students to find clues as to where Ikki is. Eventually, Karin finds Ikki and Arika and gives him back his Medarotch.

Medabots AX[edit]

Karin is the ninth opponent in the Tournament, using Saintnurse as her leader and a 2nd Medarot with mixed parts.

Medarot Brave[edit]

Karin appears early in the game, attending Tortoland with Saintnurse. She quickly befriends the stray Medarot Spring and when Ikki suggests to take Spring to the Select Corps, refuses on the grounds she suspect Spring's apparent asocial behaviour is the result of trauma from her previous master.

In the anime[edit]

Medarot[edit]

Karin is a major character, introduced in the fourth episode. She is much like she is portrayed in Medarot 2, being friendly, generous and popular, though she's not shown to be sickly and weak. The target of both Ikki's and Kouji's affection, she has an unusual variety of skills and often leverages her family's riches to support Ikki and friends.

Notes[edit]

  • According to Hirano Kana's notes on the development of Medarot 2, she had to keep herself in check to write Karin "as pure and angelic as possible" instead of writing her as "a seemingly pure angel who hides her true, evil identity deep inside."
