Medarot DS article in Famitsu

Medarot DS is a roleplaying game for the Nintendo DS set in the future from the previous games in the series. The game will use a similar battle system to that found in other Medabots RPGs, with the addition of fully-animated 3D battles and multiplayer of the Nintendo Wi-fi Connection.

As with every Medarot game there will be two versions, Kabuto and Kuwagata, where the version decides the player's starting Medabot. In the Kabuto version, the player gets the rhinoceros beetle-type Gunnose, who specializes in shooting attacks. In Kuwagata, the player gets the stag beetle-type Sanjuuro who specializes in close-range combat.

The game's artwork, character designs, and manga series are being made by Horuma Rin, the same artist that has worked on the series from the beggining. A playable demo of the game was showcased at the 2009 Tokyo Game Show.

Confirmed features

Animated 3D battles similar to those in Medarot R and wi-fi multiplayer have been confirmed for the game. Pre-release screenshots show a 2D overworld, character faces during dialogue scenes, and that battles will be controlled with a menu on the bottom screen. Screenshots also show options on the menu for "Library" (possibly like the Medarot library in Medarot 4 and 5), "Mail", and "Applications".

Characters

The main character, this time, will be Azuma Amakura (アマクラアズマ amakura azuma), who somehow is introduced to the world of robattling with a KBT or a KWG-type Medabot. For doing so, he is given to a cellphone, maybe as a reminiscent of Keitai Denjuu Telefang, a game that the developer bought licences about (also known as the Pokémon Diamond and Jade GBC bootleg), called the Medawatch (メダロッチ medarocchi, Medarotch).

Other characters confirmed are Sakura Ooshima (オオシマサクラ ooshima sakura), Chitose Asakusa (アサクサチトセ asakusa chitose), Nut Daitoku (ダイトクノット daitoku notto) and Taruto Benii (ベニイ タルト benii taruto). Azuma will have a rival, called Kohaku Himuro (ヒムロコハク himuro kohaku), who seems to be using a new STG (Kabuto) or KLN (Kuwagata) type Medabot. The Rocket Company website also reveals that the Rubberobo gang is going to make an important apparition, perharps as the player's antagonist.

Ikki Tenryou will make an appearance, following Hikaru's step as a store clerk. Erika Amazake and Nae Akihabara will also appear, but their role is as of yet unknown.

Confirmed Medabots

As for now, the new confirmed Medabots are the KBT-type Gunnose, the KWG-type Sanjuuro, the STG-type Machairodus, the KLN-type Maasai Moran and a possible CAT-type called Noir Katze.

Old Medabots already confirmed are Saikachis (and, by consequence, Roks), Peppercat, Totalizer, Metabee (however no sprite or image was shown of him; instead, only an image) and Rokusho, Noctobat, Bustroyer (from Medarot 3 and 4), Dr. Bokchoy, Krosserdog, Pingen, Octoclam, Sailor-Multi, Poison Copy, Neutranurse, Aimflash, King Pharaoh, Nin-Ninja, Phoenix, Attack-Tyrano, Pretty Prime, Boarbooster, Belzelga and Arcbeetle.

Also, new medals will make their appearance, with the God and Kabuto Medals being already confirmed.

Manga

The manga was released in September 18, which follows Azuma's story as a robattler. It is being released in the Dengeki Nintendo DS magazine.
