Description

The PTL-162012 series Medabots, nicknamed the Air-Ptera by their handlers, are one of the three main types of Medabots commissioned for use by Select Corp on duty, the other two being the Attack-Tyranno and Landbrachio. In the video games, these three Medabots collectively form the Select Trio, a standard Medabot team for on-duty Select Corp officers.

Appearing similar in shape to military jet aircraft, Air-Ptera Medabots are shown in the Medabots anime series with wings attached to their backs: this is not consistant throught all media. Air-Ptera seen in the Medabots video games do not have wings, instead sporting shoulderpads from their Left- and Right-Arm medaparts which partially cover the area where the wings of the Air-Ptera are present in the television series. Notably, the Left- and Right-Arms of the PTL-162012 model are listed as Grappling Medaparts in the video games, yet appear devoid of any blade, which is evidenced in their codenames of "Pocket Sword" and "Microsword", which in turn imply that the blade is too small to be seen with the naked eye, though this would arguably make the Medaparts of little to no use in close combat. A more likely suggestion is that the Left- and Right-Arms are not in fact used for cutting, but for blunt hand-to-hand combat.

In the Anime series, the Pocket Sword and Microsword are used for a different purpose - instead of close-combat, the Left- and Right-Arms of the Air-Ptera are used to grip spherical incendiary explosives which are then released (seemingly often in mass numbers) from a higher altitude onto the area of a target. This tactic is listed in the series as the PTL-162012's Specialty - the Bomb Attack.

In the Medabots video game series, the Air-Ptera has been stated to possess a Cat medal, although whether this is also true for the television serial is arguable, as the Medaparts listed for the PTL-162012 series Medabots appear most compatible with a Kuwagata medal.
