Gothicmate's default form is patterned on Gothic Lolita fashion. After [[Medachange]], it slots down a skull-shaped mask (similar to Blossomail's medachange form), its head pieces pivot to a horn shape and its two drone move from above its head to its shoulders, to better allow them to perform a stabbing motion.
Gothic Mate's default form is patterned on Gothic Lolita fashion.

In its bipedal form, Gothicmate has shooting-focused attacks. Its legs part has the ability [[Pure Heart]], giving it increased damage against medarots of the opposite gender. Gothicmate is the first non-collaboration model to have the Head ability [[Big Bang]], which gives a 70% chance of instantly destroying the attacked part, but with the caveat that it will heal the target if the part was damaged in any amount beforehand. After Medachange, it switches to Melee attacks and trades Pure Heart for [[Auto-Charge]].

In a [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fyZCW3YV5Ho&t=909s Q&A segment] on its announcement stream, Gothicmate designer's [[Fujioka Kenki]] discussed the thought process behind its design. Fujioka explained that four years prior, he suffered a debilitating brain hemorrhage that left the left side of his body paralyzed and turned his life into a living nightmare for a time. As a result of his living condition, his perception of demonic and hellish imagery changed and he thought to himself that if he was unavoidably dragged by a demon, he would like it to be adorable. This thought informed Gothicmate's' concept, and her ability to Medachange was meant to convey that behind her cute appearance was a irreversibly dangerous being.

Gothicmate's base form was made with the idea of a being that lure men with her appearance and took inspiration from the "devilish fashion" subculture in Japan. Her transformed appearance is meant to convey an out-of-control being.
