Shingata Medarot is an RPG released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. It was the first game in the series to be published by Rocket Company, and the last game to be released before the series went on hiatus until 2010.
The game features a unique cartoon-like art style by Kitazawa Naoki, which proved to be highly unpopular with Medarot fans at the time. The events of the game closely mirror Medarot 1, such that it could be considered a reimagining with a different cast of characters.
The title is a play on "shingata" (新型, new model), with a character replaced to make it "true model" (真型). The logo features the English subtitle "The True Medarot". Like the other games, it was released in Kabuto and Kuwagata versions, where the player starts with a KBT Medarot (Beet) or KWG Medarot (Cervo) respectively.
Overview
The story follows a new protagonist named Gamma (ガンマ) and his battles against the RoboRobo Gang. The gameplay and mechanics are identical to those in Medarot 2 Core, albeit with a visual re-skin.
Selection of Medarots
- Main article: Medarots in Shingata Medarot
Like Medarot 1, Shingata Medarot contains 60 different Medarots (39 male, 21 female) for a total of 240 collectable parts. All Medarots in the game are new designs, and have not appeared in any other Medarot media before Medarot 9 (most likely because of the different art style).
Continuity and Placement
It's unknown when the events of Shingata Medarot occur or whether they take place in the same universe as the previous games or in a separate continuity.
Despite having its own cast and setting in a different city, the game was essentially created as a reimagining of Medarot 1 and the Medarot concept, reflected in its new retro futuristic style. This suggests that the events of Shingata Medarot could be a different continuity's version of Medarot 1.
However, despite years of absence, the Shingata Medarot models have started to appear in other games such as Medarot 9 and Medarot S. The new numbering of these models suggests that Shingata Medarot may have occurred after Medarot 5 and Medarot G, but before Medarot DS/7, which aligns with its release timeline.
