Shinzan (シンザン) is a stag beetle-type Medarot that first appeared in Medarot 5. It is the player's starting Medarot in the Kuwagata version, and is owned by the player's rival in the Kabuto version.
Description[edit]
Based on a stag beetle (or "kuwagata-mushi"), Shinzan is the mascot of the Kuwagata version of Medarot 5. Its design is more sleek and angular compared to previous KWG Medarots, and its left arm features a "pile bunker" weapon in the form of a long pole on its arm that it can fire forward at high speed to strike its enemies.
The name "Shinzan" comes from an alternate reading of the characters for "deep mountain" (深山, miyama), in reference to a species of stag beetle called the miyama stag beetle.
In the games[edit]
In Medarot 5[edit]
In the Kuwagata version, Koishimaru finds Shinzan disassembled along with a Medarotch and Kuwagata Medal inside a large tree at the Shijimi shrine. He takes the Medarot and Medarotch with the intention of returning them to their original owner, but is forced to activate it in a battle with Hiko's Chrotojil shortly after, due to his own Medarotch being broken. Later, it is revealed that Shinzan and the Medarotch were new models stolen from a nearby laboratory, but Koishimaru is given permission to keep them due to Shinzan's attachment to him.
Like other KWG Medarots, Shinzan has a Sword attack on its right arm, a Hammer attack on its left, and a Scan action on its head. Its parts all have the Speed attribute.
You can't get Shinzan's parts in Kabuto version without trading as the battles with Hiko do not award parts (and vice versa with Chrotojil in the Kuwagata version).
Shinzan's stats and part functions in Medarot 5:
Part | Name | Armor | Attribute | Combo Type / Leg Type | Skill | Action |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Head | Finder | 65 | Speed | Rock | Protect | Scan |
R. Arm | Hitter | 30 | Speed | Scissors | Strike | Sword |
L. Arm | Squeeze | 30 | Speed | Scissors | Reckless | Hammer |
Legs | Separate | 65 | Speed | Biped type |
Personality in Medarot 5[edit]
Personality wise, Shinzan is highly unlike Rokusho, as he is more mischevious and playful, despite having a sense of justice.
In the Kabuto version, the roles of Shinzan and Chrotojil are reversed, and Shinzan serves as Hiko's Medarot. The two have distinct personalities when they speak in the story, which they keep regardless of which side they are on.
Shinzan has a strong sense of justice, and is mischevious and often helpful albeit being inquisitive, and when Koishimaru tries to tell him that he isn't his master, Shinzan responds by asking where is his master(in the Kabuto version Chrotojil calls Koishimaru an idiot and tries to convince him to be his master.).
In Medarot 8[edit]
Shinzan makes a reappearance in Medarot 8 as a DLC-exclusive Medarot. It appears along with Chrotojil and Magentacat in the seventh DLC mission, which can be downloaded for 300 yen ($2.40).
Its model number is now KWG0C.
In the manga[edit]
In Medarot 5 / Next Generation Medarot[edit]
- Main article: Nekuu (Medarot 5)
In this manga series, Shinzan takes on the same role as in the Kabuto version of the games and appears as Hiko's partner Medarot with the name Nekuu (ネクウ). Presumably like in the game , Hiko and Nekuu attempt to stop Koishimaru thinking he stole the parts he found, Koishimaru tries to convince him otherwise but Koishimaru and Omeda end up fighting Hiko anyway.
