Pure Mermaid (ピュアマーメイド), known as Oceana in English, is a mermaid-type Medarot that first appeared in the original Medarot game.
Description
Pure Mermaid is a Medarot based on a mermaid, with long blonde hair, pink fins, and a fishlike tail allowing it to move freely in the water. It specializes in repairing damage to its allies' parts, making it very useful as a support-type Medarot.
Pure Mermaid is usually depicted with a pair of small sea angels hovering above the palms of its hands, but these are missing in some of its game appearances.
Its name in the English language releases is Oceana, a name that was first used to refer to a specific Pure Mermaid that appeared in the anime. The A in its model number (MAR) most likely comes from the Japanese pronunciation of mermaid, "maameido".
In the games
Pure Mermaid is an aquatic-type Medarot that uses Repair actions to restore HP on its allies' unbroken parts. In Medarot 1, 2, R, and 2 Core, its parts have the Recovery attribute, making it an obvious choice for use with the Mermaid Medal.
In Medarot DS and newer games, its head was changed to an All Repair action, which slightly heals all of a Medarot's parts. In Medarot 7, its arms use the more powerful Serious Repair action, while in Medarot Dual its arms have Double Repair, which repairs parts on its buddy Medarot as well as itself.
In Medarot 1
Pure Mermaid's arms are the fastest Repair parts available in Medarot 1, and its head is the only part in the game capable of repairing multiple parts at once. Unfortunately, only its leg parts can be obtained through normal gameplay, as a reward for winning a battle with the gym teacher in the post-game. The rest of its parts can only be obtained by trading them from the Parts Collection games, or by having Shell Cushion's parts traded to you, which will transform into Pure Mermaid's parts upon being traded.
In Medarot 2
Pure Mermaid's parts are not normally obtainable in Medarot 2, and must be transferred over from Medarot 1. It was replaced by the new MAR-type, Maitin.
In Medabots AX
Julie uses Pure Mermaid as her leader Medarot, although with Sailor-Multi's right arm equipped. Its parts are quite common.
In Medarot 2 Core
Pure Mermaid replaces Maitin.
In Medarot Brave
Quote: Healing is my specialty. Twirl twirl twirl, now you're fine!
You start with Pure Mermaid's head part.
In Medarot DS
Its model number is now MAR00-F and its head part now uses "All Repair", which heals all parts simultaneously.
In the anime
Pure Mermaid appears in episode 8 of the anime series (episode 32 in the English version). After Metabee finds a stray Mermaid Medal on the ground, Ikki, Arika, and Brass decide to try to find the Medarot that it belongs to. They try teleporting the body with Ikki's Medarotch, but it doesn't work. Instead, they decide to place said Medal in Brass's body until they can find it. They find out that her name is Hijiki (Oceana in the English version) and that she got separated from her Medarotter, Yuzu Aoba (Hannah), when her family was moving.
Over the course of the episode, Metabee falls head over heels for Hijiki, as she is sweet, polite, and thankful for his help. The group eventually finds Yuzu, and they discover Hijiki's body is being held captive by an obsessive Medarot collector. After Metabee wins a tough fight against the collector's Taraba Craba with Hijiki cheering him on, they finally retrieve Hijiki's body and reunite her with her Medarotter. Sadly, the two of them have to leave before the group can say goodbye, leaving no home address and no way for Metabee to see Hijiki again.
Later on, in episode 52 of the series, she appears again to cheer on Metabee in the final battle against Primity Baby.
