Natsume Co. Ltd (ナツメ株式会社), now Natsume Atari Co., Ltd, is a Japanese game developer founded in 1987 by ex employees of Konami, it is known as the developer of games such as Shatterhand, Wild Guns and Pocky & Rocky. It was the primary developer of the Medarot series until 2003.

It is not to be confused with Natsume Inc., its former American subsidiary spun-off as an independant company, which handled western publishing of the Medabots games.

History[edit]

Imagineer outsourced development of the Medarot games to Natsume. During development of the games, Natsume had to observe requests from the sponsors of the Medarot franchise (meaning Imagineer and other stakeholders such as TV Tokyo and Kodansha) regarding elements such as game features and characters.

After Imagineer stepped away from the packaged game business, Natsume remained interested in developing Medarot games and Imagineer thus handed over creative direction of the series to Natsume[1]. However, Natsume itself discontinued its involvement in Medarot after the release of Medarot Brave. While the company is credited for "Original Concept" on the title screen of Shingata Medarot, all mainline games since then have been developed internally at Imagineer.
