Kasumi Asano is the main protagonist of Medarot Navi. Although he begins the game with a different Medarot than KBT or KWG series, he quickly loses his first medarot and get Granbeetle or Sonic Stag as his main and first permanent medarot.
In the Games
Kasumi's adventure begins with him in the Blue Sky academy building his first Medarot --- Windclap, after activating his Medarotch, he is invited by his childhood friend Hiyori to see Shiden Murasame, but Kasumi refuses as it isn't anything to do with Medarot. When he leaves, he is caught by the coward Mizore and the idiot Goutetsu. The duo taunt Kasumi and goad him into fighting them, not realizing that they gave Kasumi and Far East the strategy to beat them. They knock Far East down and Mizore steals his Medal, and because of that Kasumi is without a partner for a while. Hearing a mysterious voice, Kasumi goes to the Abanoned School, and falls through a hole in the floor. Turning on Hiyori's flashlight, he sees a a strange Medal with a beetle larva / stag beetle larva. While exploring the cave he finds Mistral an alien Medarot that unbeknownst to Kasumi, was sent to study humans. After getting caught by Shiden and showing Mistral to the young man, Kasumi becomes famous overnight.
When he hears about Cluster a theme park dedicated to Medarot, he is excited to go there, but he ends up being bullied by the arrogant Niwaka, who humiliates him every day until he decides to lock Kasumi in a supply warehouse. Hiyori busts him out, and scolds him for being late.
When Kasumi gets to Cluster, he is invited by Shiden to see and test a new Medarot-- namely the KBT-0NF model Granbeetle or the KWG-0NF model Sonic Stag. However Shiden tries to tempt Kasumi with more fame, and when that doesn't work, Shiden betrays him, and torments Kasumi to confess what Mistral said to him by sending multiple security Medarot to fight him. Kasumi activates Granbeetle / Sonic Stag and the duo bond during the fight. Kasumi leaves a note apologizing for the trouble.
Kasumi knows little about Mistral, and Shiden leaves Kasumi to get beat up, and sets Cluster to go away from Earth. Kasumi and Granbeetle / Sonic Stag break out of the vault by using the Medaforce (Ultra Shot or Spiral Bolt depending on the Version), awing Kasumi with his new friend's power. Niwaka is demoted for the selfsame prank he pulled, his prized armband taken from him, and Kasumi is given the armband and promoted to class president.
Realizing the danger that they're in, Kasumi, Granbeetle/Sonic Stag and Hiyori and her partner Blazermate search for the rest of the students scattered to explore Cluster, with Hiyori getting jumped by a security Medarot. Hiyori flees by accident, leaving Kasumi and Granbeetle/Sonic Stag alone.
Kasumi wanders Cluster alone until he meets Fubuki and Ptolemy, and suspicious of Kasumi, Fubuki fights him, resulting with Granbeetle/Sonic Stag defeating Ptolemy. Hearing Kasumi and Granbeetle's / Sonic Stag's story, Fubuki decides to help Kasumi (Though in reality, the main reason why she was on Cluster was that she was sent by Shiden Murasame to spy on Kasumi.), and the duo meet up with Hiyori and run into Mizore and Goutetsu. Both fools attack Kasumi, but Granbeetle/Sonic Stag trashes their Medarots after a hard-fought battle. After the fight, both fools give Far East back, and gawk at Fubuki and pressure her to be their leader(which Fubuki reluctantly agrees to).
With that the new student council is formed, with Kasumi , Granbeetle / Sonic Stag and Far East searching for the other students. Kasumi with Far East , Granbeetle/Sonic Stag and the rest of their allies run into Shiden who reveals his Ashton. Fubuki is suspiciously not present for this fight, forcing Kasumi to improvise.
Kasumi is challenged by Shiden who is incensed by the fact that Kasumi got out the vault. Granbeetle / Sonic Stag with the help of Far East, Blazermate, Siclke Cutter and Bugstink, defeats Ashton, mush to his and Shiden's shock. Kasumi finds out from Doctor Medarot, that Shiden's recklessness endangered them all, and that Cluster is going to hit an asteroid field, and to stop it, Kasumi and co. tries to make their way to the control room.
The group runs afoul of the Space Robos who want Mistral, and the R.R. Group who want to stop Kasumi. Kasumi faces Kuwagata Baizan / Kabuto Benimaru who wants to test his skills against him.
In Medarot S
In the Manga
In the Manga, Kasumi is the protagonist of the Prologue Arc of Medarot Navi. His story up to going to Cluster is only documented. It is vague about his fate after the Cluster incident, his further fate in 2040 is unknown.
When Kasumi was young, he had a partner, a Metal Beetle -type Medarot, whom he named "Metabee." They were always together and got along well, and were the best partners, never losing in robattles, but in a sudden accident, Metabee's medal was broken. Since then, he has not been able to forget about Metabee, and has left Metabee's body in the old school building to reminisce.
Kasumi is seen grieving for his Metabee in the Abandoned School alongside Blazermate who tells him that Hiyori is waiting for him, worried about Kasumi's well-being. Kasumi reminisced about Kasumi's Metabee for a little bit, knowing that Metabee's Kabuto Medal shattered. He hears Mistral calling his name. Following the voice, Kasumi falls into a cave and finds a new Kabuto Medal. Thinking that it will bring Metabee back, Kasumi loads the Kabuto Medal inside Metabee, but the new Metabee has a stubborn and childish personality, which Kasumi initailly doesn't like. However, these two become friends and had gone on adventures after being invited to Cluster, with Metabee later using Granbeetle parts.
At some point in the past, Kasumi fought Shiden, who had the gall to use another Metabee against Kasumi in an attempt to win. Kasumi beats Shiden anyway and in a later rematch points out that the strategy Shiden used is the problem of why he can't win against Kasumi.
