Super Game Boy (スーパーゲームボーイ Sūpāgēmubōi) is an accessory released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). It plugs into the SNES cartridge slot, allowing Game Boy games to be played on a TV.

The Super Game Boy is compatible with original Game Boy cartridges and black Game Boy Color cartridges but cannot play Game Boy Color-exclusive games. Some Game Boy games included enhanced features for the Super Game Boy, enabling full-color display with a special border and improved sound capabilities. However, some Game Boy Color games have a downgrade in their color palette.

One of the features of the Super Game Boy is the capability to modify the overall color palette, changing the look of the game. Users can select from a range of default palettes, including one that automatically loads with the game, or they can create custom settings. These adjustments only remain active while the game is in play and are not retained on either the Super Game Boy or the game cartridge once the SNES is powered off.

The Super Game Boy 2 was released four years later exclusively in Japan. It features link capability, allowing it to connect to a Game Boy for multiplayer games. Additionally, it supports the Game Boy Camera and Game Boy Printer through this link port.

Medarot games[edit]

The Medarot series includes several games compatible with the Super Game Boy, each featuring unique borders. While Game Boy games are enhanced when played on the Super Game Boy, Game Boy Color games suffer a downgrade in their color palette quality compared to when they are played directly on the handheld Game Boy Color.
