Rin Horuma (Japanese: ほるまりん or ほるま りん) is a manga artist and designer that is the original creator of the Medarot franchise and the author of the main manga series that ran in Comic BomBom from 1997-2003.

In addition to creating the overall concept and setting, he designed most of the characters and Medarots that appear in the series (specifically for Medarot 1-3, DS, 7, Dual, 8, and a handful from the other games).

From 2007-2008, Rin Horuma wrote a short doujinshi series called Meda 2043 under the pseudonym "Horu0rin" (ほる○りん) as an unofficial continuation of the manga.

When Medarot DS was announced in 2009, he became the official president of the in-universe "Medarot Company" and started a blog on the official Medarot website. The blog features posts about Medarot-related news and information on the design process, in addition to posts about his personal projects and everyday life.

In 2017 he start doing short humorous strips titled Medarot Tepid that ran in Weekly Medarot Communication.

Notes[edit]

  • Before creating Medarot, Rin Horuma's first manga while in Comic BomBom was Napoleon, published in 1996. Bonaparte's name is a nod to this.
  • As Rin Horuma's name has the same spelling as the word Formalin in Japanese, except that the latter is written in katakana instead of hiragana, his name was mistranslated as such in the English version of Star Wars Manga: Black, which includes a short story by him.
