Name[edit]

Just noting that I changed the spelling back from Bayonit to Bayonet because I think it sounds better after all. ;D ~ Kimbles 19:40, 1 March 2012 (MST)

Seconded! --Ianator 20:14, 1 March 2012 (MST)

.........Whoops.--Kagimizu 01:42, 6 March 2012 (MST)

So, why don't you guys use the Japanese name anyways, when that's the standard for the wiki?--Kagimizu 21:44, 6 March 2012 (MST)

Welllll... Basically, transliterating names is pretty subjective, and in a lot of cases there's no way of knowing how they wanted the name to be spelled in english. The name is obviously intended to be from "Bayonet", but the katakana spelling is slightly different from normal, either because A) they were bad at english, or B) they wanted to make it sound more interesting in japanese. Even if it was intentional, it sadly doesn't work that well in english, so we might as well stick with with spelling it Bayonet since that gets the name origin across while still sounding cool. XD This doesn't go against the standard of the wiki, we're just saying that the japanese name is "Bayonet".
When I argued to name it Bayonit, I hadn't been translating Medarot stuff for very long and still thought it would be possible to do a 100% faithful translation. >_>; (Spoilers: there's no such thing.) I've since switched to being more loose in how I spell the japanese names, but I still want to avoid changing them too much, so that if you saw the name in japanese you'd still be able to easily link it to the english spelling. *nod* ~ Kimbles 22:51, 6 March 2012 (MST)

Okay, makes sense.--Kagimizu 14:53, 7 March 2012 (MST)
