Hi![edit]
Hey, thanks for deciding to join the wiki and help out!
Just wanted to mention, I'd rather that you didn't copy any information or pages from Medabots Wiki (since it violates the license that the pages were published under, and most of the pages there are badly written anyway). I really appreciate you adding new pages but it would be better all-around if you could write your own content instead. ^^
Also, for any Medarots from Medarot 1 or 2, you should be able to use the Medarot 2 sprite by changing the M4 to an M2 in the file name (since all of the M2 sprites are uploaded). The Medarot 4 sprites aren't all that different, so you shouldn't need to worry about uploading them for now. *nod* ~ Kimbles 22:21, 16 October 2012 (MDT)
- I don't mean to nag, but could you pretty please stop creating pages without any text on them? ): Infoboxes are nice, but they don't really add enough info to warrant making the page when there's nothing else there. I just don't like the idea of a reader coming across tons of nearly empty pages... If you could even include just a tiny bit of information on the page that isn't copy-pasted it would really help.
- By the way, you can use the M2 sprites in the infobox for any of the Medarots in Medarot 1 or 2. For the "image" part, just put M2-(model number goes here).gif. For Paradiver for example, you'd put M2-BOP-0.gif. ~ Kimbles 22:43, 6 November 2012 (MST)
Replacing images[edit]
Hey, I'm just curious why you're uploading your own versions of the M2 sprites when they're all already on the wiki... I spent a lot of time on them making them consistant, so I'd prefer to leave them with the same colors and spacing as before. ): If you really think the sprite images need changing, please actually explain why, otherwise I'm going to go ahead and revert them to the versions I uploaded. (I'm giving you fair warning here.)
I understand that you're trying to help, but this is what happens when you don't communicate! ~ Kimbles 05:46, 17 May 2013 (MDT)
Image sources[edit]
Thanks for adding some nice pictures to the pages. ^^ Any chance you could tell me where you got the pictures of the model kits and Medarot DS/7 cards though? I don't like the idea of taking other people's pictures without at least citing the source... Did you take any of the pictures/scans yourself? ~ Kimbles 21:17, 23 May 2013 (MDT)
Images[edit]
Again, thank you so much for adding these! I'm still missing sources on a lot of the non-dual models and figures though, as well as the M7 AR cards... I'm worried that some of the models (like this one) are actually fan-made custom figures, which we probably shouldn't include because they're essentially fanart.
As for how the images are used on the pages, I think that including every picture of a model kit might be overkill... Including one or two representative pictures and linking to the webpage with all of them would be a better use of space, plus it would be more respectful to the person who's picture's we're taking. I'm also thinking of changing the infobox picture to the front-facing "design" art when it's available. What do you think? (You can reply on this page.) ~ Kimbles 12:49, 22 June 2013 (MDT)
Recent edits[edit]
Hey again. I haven't been able to check/edit the wiki regularly for a while (and won't be able to for a while yet), but I see you've been really busy! Thanks again for adding a lot of pictures that we needed.
Now's the part where I start nagging. ^^; (I would have mentioned a lot of this earlier if I had been around to notice it!)
- Game sprites (from the GB-GBA games) are all already uploaded, and I'd appreciate if you didn't upload resized versions of them since the sprite galleries work better when the sizes are the same. :(
- Sprites in Medarot 7/8/Brave... aren't a thing that exists. "Sprites" generally refer to 2D images, so what you're uploading are 3D models. They'll need to use a separate template for the terminology to be right, which I'll try to create soon.
- I'd still appreciate if you added sources for the pictures you're finding, especially the card scans and 3D model screenshots. I think some of the screenshots come from the Medarot 8 wiki, right?
- Model numbers... should use the old format (DOG-0) if the Medarot existed before Medarot DS, and the new format (DOG04) only if it came after. (That's how we've been doing it up to now, since it doesn't hurt to show which era a Medarot came from.)
- The "Navbox-Type" template should state the Medarot's motif under "type", not the model (i.e. Devil-type instead of DVL-type), and only list a single model number for each Medarot (old format if it's old, new format if it's new). *nod*
- The Medarot 8 "magazine scans" actually mostly come from the trailer video on youtube, not a magazine. The pics are still good, just misnamed.
- You don't have to specify that a card scan is a "bad scan" on the page, since the quality should be obvious from looking at it. ^^;
I think that's everything. Sorry again for not mentioning these earlier... If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on my talk page (I'll try to keep a close eye on it)! ~ Kimbles 11:50, 2 November 2014 (MST)
Sprites[edit]
Really wish you wouldn't keep re-uploading the GB/GBC sprites. :/ The reason they're un-centered is to show which ones have "floating" sprites and which ones are touching the bottom, so if you center them all, you lose that detail. I hope that makes sense. I also don't think it's a good idea to make the backgrounds transparent since you're bound to misinterperet whitespace vs. shading at some point. I'd rather leave the sprites on the wiki as they appear in the game with no modifications/interpretations if possible. :/ Let me know what you think. ~ Kimbles 10:46, 7 November 2014 (MST)
Some notes on formatting[edit]
Hello, back again... I've been looking through the Medarot 1 Medarot pages and there's just a few things I wanted to mention:
- With few exceptions, animal names (and other motifs) are NOT proper nouns, so they don't need to be capitalized in the middle of a sentence. In the infobox, only the first letter of the motif needs to be capitalized (unless it contains a proper noun).
- IMO, the text in the "appearances" section of the infobox doesn't need to be treated like titles, so only first letters and proper nouns need to be capitalized (i.e. Medarot DS promo cards, not Promo Cards). Same goes for the captions in the image gallery. *nod*
- For cards in the "other appearances" section, I go with the name of the set it appears in, so "Medarot OCG" and "Medarot DS promo cards". It's referring to the whole set, so you shouldn't use the singular "card" there. (This is a really minor nitpick, but it's still something that I want to keep consistant. :S)
- Lastly, please avoid adding new section titles (like "In Medarot R") unless you have content (text!) to put in them. It makes the pages look messy when they have empty sections, and there's not much point IMO, since the fact that it's in Medarot R is already mentioned in the infobox. Nobody will "forget" that it needs Medarot R information if you don't add the section title, but the pages will look much neater without it. :D
Sorry I complain so much, but I still don't have much free time so I haven't been able to keep up with all your edits. ^^; I also recommend trying to combine your changes to a page into a single edit, rather than changing one small thing at a time, since it makes the recent changes and page histories easier to follow. *nod* Keep up the good work! ~ Kimbles 12:20, 2 December 2014 (MST)
Shingata Medarots[edit]
I'm removing links to the Shingata Medarots for the time being, since the spelling of the names are still undecided (see here). I also wanted to note that every single Medarot from Medarot 3 is also found in Medarot 4, so you can add Medarot 4 to the infobox at the same time you start the page. :) ~ Kimbles 11:01, 10 December 2014 (MST)
More comments[edit]
Thank you SO much for adding pictures to the M5 Medarot pages. ^^ Now for some stuff I want to mention:
- Even if they are more recent, I don't want to use all of the M2C or AX/G sprites for infoboxes, because they're a bit weird and off-model compared to the artwork/other sprites. There are a few exceptions (like Propolis and Sekizou) where I think the 2 Core sprite shows details or matches the official art better, but that doesn't mean you need to use the M2C sprites on every single page, or the M2 sprites on every single page, y'know? IMO it's good to follow a formula, but it doesn't need to be as strict as you are making it (in general).
- Likewise, just because there's an image gallery on the page doesn't mean you should remove all other images placed on the page. Having some images interspersed in the text is not a bad thing. :(
- I don't think sprites placed in the infobox should be removed from the gallery either (unless it's the only image on the page, in which case you don't need a gallery). It's nice to have it next to the other sprites in the gallery so you check what game it's from and compare them side-by-side without having to scroll up. :P
- You might have already seen them, but just in case, I wanted to point out that I updated the Medapedia:Rules and Help:Style guide pages a while ago, so please try to follow the stuff on there. It would also be nice if you could try to consolidate your edits more. (Instead of making multiple small edits to a page in a short period of time, try to combine them into a single edit.)
If you have any questions or disagree with any of this, please let me know. ~ Kimbles 13:30, 3 May 2015 (MDT)
Deleted images and a warning[edit]
I can't tell if you even read these messages. I've gone through and deleted some 300+ images you marked, and I really hope this is the last time you decide to rename these files since it makes a lot of work for me when I have to delete all the leftovers. Why's it even matter if the model number in the title has an -M on it? ._.
A few of the images you put in the delete category are still being used on pages (or I think they could still be useful), so I haven't deleted them yet. You should go through the category and make sure you marked the correct copies or remove the links to them.
I also added some images to the delete pile for the following reasons:
- Sailor-Multi Medarot 2 Design.png, God Emperor Medarot 7 Design.png, and Legend Horn Medarot DS Design.png look like fanart to me, unless you can show me where you found them?
- That Peppercat model is a garage kit (fan-made model) so it shouldn't be included here.
- Magical Pierrot Medarot 2 Artwork.jpg, Rollstar Medarot 2 Artwork.png, and Head Scissors Medarot 2 Artwork.jpg are misnamed; they're actually all from Medarot 1. (Magical Pierrot is from the back cover of the M1 manga.)
- M8-DVL00.jpeg is misnamed (it's a picture of Blackmail X).
- All of the sprite sheets from Medabots AX, because I don't think we need them. (If someone wants to see every possible animation for a Medarot, they can just play the game!) Also, the original uploaders don't want them used without permission and that's what we're doing by posting them here. Please stop re-adding them. :<
- All of the art images from the Medabots AX intro should be reuploaded in .png for better quality, plus a lot of them have "Medabost" in the title.
- Let me know if you disagree with any of these, otherwise I'll remove the links to them and delete them after a week or so. *nod*
I also noticed you stopped using the source template for scans/official art a while back, but I really, really wish you would for magazine scans at least. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me where you found these pictures originally:
- File:Awake Me Medarot Navi Artwork.png, File:Blacklester Medarot Navi Artwork.png, File:Blazer-Multi Medarot Navi Artwork.png (and other Navi pictures in this style) - I would really like to know where these are from. Please upload the full image if you have it!
- File:Blazermate Model Stats.png and File:Navi Commu Model Stats.png - I know these are from an article in a hobby magazine, but I've never seen full scans before. (Again, unedited pages + source would be appreciated!)
- File:Kaizokurobey anime image.jpg (and other anime art cards like it)
- File:Chi-Behemoth Design in Medarot 4.gif (and the ones for Kuu-Wyvern and Mi-Leviathan)
- I recognize the other official art pics from the player's guides or magazine scans, but it would still be nice if you could include the URLs you found them at. :)
Lastly, I do really appreciate you adding these images and creating pages, but I want you to consider how frustrating it is dealing with these mass edits, especially when you're doing stuff like removing corrections I made to the page previously. It's gotten to the point over the last few months where I feel like I might as well not bother editing Medarot pages if you're just going to revert my changes anyway, and I don't always have the time to correct them or write up a message like this asking you to stop. :/ I don't mind letting you finish going down the Medarot lists you have yet to cover, but after you're done with 7/Dual/8/R (I assume), I want you to know that starting any more massive-scale edits like this (or re-adding deleted images, or reverting formatting changes) without explaining yourself beforehand will probably result in a temporary ban of a few days at least. (I'm planning on holding other users to the same standard too, so it's not just you.) But hopefully you will take this message to heart so it doesn't come to that. Good luck with the rest of the Medarot pages. :) ~ Kimbles 09:04, 8 May 2015 (MDT)
- Thank you for replying! :D I really appreciate you adding the card/model image sources and uploading those full scans (they're really cool). XD
- It's fine if you can't remember where you found the other official arts/magazine scans (I have a lot of the same pictures saved from a few years ago, and I didn't keep track of where I got them either ._.;). With artwork/scans, I mostly want to record what books/magazines the pictures came from since it helps to tell what era they're from, and if I know where they came from I might be able to scan them in better quality eventually. I'll try to add the sources I know so you don't need to worry about them. (I also added a template and category for other scans, so if you have any more pages or stuff from books/magazines you can add them there. :D)
- And yes, you can keep on fixing the other pages and renaming images (I agree the new file names are better). ^^; It would be really helpful if you could fill in the remaining 7/Dual/8 Medarot pages so we have all of them. But after you finish those, try to let me know if there's something you think should be be changed on all the Medarot pages before doing it yourself (I am open to suggestions). I don't really mind if the spelling is bad (I have seen a lot worse), but I think it's better to ask questions before making a lot of formatting changes on a wiki so there aren't any disagreements. *nod* The main things I was getting frustrated with were when I changed the opening line on a page and you changed it back, or when I removed sections from a page and you added them back in, and so on. You can check the page history (next to the edit button) to see what changes other users have made, so maybe use that as a guideline for the pages with more content on them. :) ~ Kimbles 09:16, 9 May 2015 (MDT)
Image categories[edit]
If you can wait until tomorrow, I'm planning on adding templates + categories for the Damashii art, concept art, and other pics from the official website. You don't need to worry about categorizing them for now. ^^; ~ Kimbles 23:54, 18 May 2015 (MDT)
- I see you're already using them. Thanks! :D ~ Kimbles 15:52, 19 May 2015 (MDT)
Renaming images[edit]
Alright, I probably should have figured this out a lot earlier, but there is a feature that lets administrators move images the same way you move pages. It's not available to regular users (same as deletions), but I think it will be better to rename things that way from now on, since deleting + reuploading the image erases the file history, and simply moving it doesn't. *nod* It looks like it automatically creates a redirect, so the image will still show up on pages that link to the old name. (Great!)
I'm going to create a Template:Rename that works similar to the delete template, so you can mark things to be renamed if you want and I can do the moving. Sorry for not realizing this was possible before you did all that work. ^^;;;; ~ Kimbles 15:52, 19 May 2015 (MDT)
- Thanks for marking the pictures that need it. XD I'm sorry I haven't been going through and renaming stuff, but I've been really busy for the last couple weeks so I've just been focusing on templates and lists for now. *sigh* Some questions/notes:
- a) Is there a particular reason you want to use "design" over "artwork"? I think artwork is accurate too, but I don't mind changing it... Just curious. XD I was originally thinking we could use "design" for the front-facing character book/website art, and "artwork" for the pictures in action poses, but that doesn't work quite as well for the new games because they stopped making the front-facing art. There's also the issue of them re-using some Medarot art between Dual and 8, like on the Nio-Kaiko page... I dunno if it's accurate to call the DLC art its "Medarot 8 design", since they obviously just used the Medarot Dual picture.
- b) As for .png versus .jpg... PNG allows transparency and preserves the quality of the image better, so it's good for things like game screens and website art. JPG can still be good if it's saved under the right settings though, and a lot of pictures are already in JPG format. If you find a pic as a .jpg then there's no reason to change it to .png, but changing a PNG to a JPG can mess up the quality (like on Nio Kaiko's Medarot 8 Design pic). Most of the JPGs we have uploaded are fine, but I think some pieces of website art should be reuploaded as PNG to improve the quality, which will require a new upload instead of a rename since they're different formats. *nod* ~ Kimbles 14:13, 28 May 2015 (MDT)
- To answer your questions, I think until we get better pictures, (like from their character book/website) we should use the best examples as the "Designs" and we can always change them to "Artwork" (or whatever best describes them) when we get the better one later, right. And about the pictures form Dual and 8. Maybe we should keep the better picture (clear/bigger), then take the other one out of the page's image gallery and in the description of the one on the page we say, "Design in Medarot Dual to 8". At least for one that use the same image, like in the Dual and 8 pictures for example. What do you think about it?
- About the .png and .jpg situation you mentioned. I have to apologize for that. I was using the copy and paste method to do it quickly and must of forgot to change some of them to match the file. I didn't mean to suggest that I wanted them changed. So you don't have to worry about it. I hope that answers your questions. If not, wright me back. ~ C0deB1ue 16:25, 28 May 2015 (MDT)
- I agree about the Dual and 8 pictures. For design vs. artwork... The best quality picture of the design would be "design", and the rest would be "artwork"? Just trying to figure this out. ^^;
- What about the Medarots like Rollstar that had redesigns in Navi? With that system, I think you could call Rollstar's M1 character book picture its Medarot 1 "design", the Navi guide picture as its Medarot Navi "design", and the M8 picture "artwork" since it just uses its M1 design, but it still seems kind of complicated... Plus, I'd rather avoid naming files so that we'll need to rename them later, since moving a moved file means that you have to manually fix the redirect. :S If we can figure out a system so that we won't have to rename anything later though (assuming no other issues), I think it'd work out. Something like:
- Front-facing "standard pose" Medarot pictures from this page, magazines, and the character books are all called "designs".
- Pictures of the Medarot Navi, G, Dual, 8, and Shingata Medarots are called "designs" because no other pictures exist.
- Everything else is called "artwork".
- I don't know if that's a good system, but it's the sort of thing we should figure out sooner than later to save ourselves from having to rename more stuff. >_>; Let me know what you think. (The other alternative would just be calling them all "artwork", which wouldn't be incorrect.) ~ Kimbles 00:26, 30 May 2015 (MDT)
Extra spaces in page code[edit]
I'd actually prefer if you left the line breaks between the == titles and section text, since they don't affect anything but they make the page a bit easier to navigate when editing. It's definitely not worth editing the page just to add/remove them though. ~ Kimbles 20:15, 6 June 2015 (MDT)
Shingata Medarot pages[edit]
I added links on the Shingata list for some of the Medarots whose names probably aren't going to change, so you can start pages for them now if you want. ._. Just don't create pages or add navbox links for the Medarots that aren't linked there yet.
Also, please stop removing the -M's and -F's from DS/7/Dual/8 Medarot model numbers after I put them there. >_>; ~ Kimbles 14:45, 15 June 2015 (MDT)
M8 images[edit]
Why are you un-cropping the M8 pictures we have uploaded? o_O I thought it was a good idea to crop them since it means they show up clearer on the infobox/gallery (since they don't need to be scaled as much). Also, I think it should only be necessary to name a picture with "front" "back" or "side", unless you're planning on uploading more angles than that. ~ Kimbles 11:20, 17 June 2015 (MDT)
- Sorry, I thought it looked good this way, but I do see that the infobox is a bit off. So I will put them back the way they were and also git rid of the "right" and "left" in the names too. I also wanted to ask you for help on getting more info on the Ori-Meda contest Medarots too. Like the names of the creators of each one and more.
- P.S. I've found more pix and will be uploading (with source) them soon.
- P.P.S. I don't know the names of these two Medatrots, do you know? 1: File:?1_Medaror_8_Design.png and 2: File:?2_Medaror_8_Design.png -- User:C0deB1ue
- Thanks. XD The Medarots in those two pics are Pinecone and Vamp-Squid... I'll try to add more information about the Ori-Medas later, but the creators (according to this page) are 葉桜 (Hazakura), げってゐ (Gettewi), and MDアクス (MD Akusu).
- I actually found a really good source of M8 images (these videos), so I'll be taking screenshots from those and uploading them soon, probably starting with the Medarots that don't have any images yet. XD ~ Kimbles 17:26, 17 June 2015 (MDT)
- That is great news, can't wait to see them. I wonder if it possible to make them into .gif so that you can have see it all as it spines. That would be soooooooo cool in the infobox. What do you think? ~ C0deB1ue 17:40, 17 June 2015 (MDT)
- I was thinking about that too. XD I'll need to find a good program for converting frames to gifs though, so it might take a while, and I still want to have static pictures of the model uploaded. *nod* It'd be cool to have gifs of the Medachange animations too. XD ~ Kimbles 18:27, 17 June 2015 (MDT)
- We have a few animated gifs uploaded now (thanks to Tobias), but after seeing it in action I think it'd be better to leave the animations in the gallery since it's a bit distracting having a moving picture in the infobox. ^^; Anyway, I still like the idea of using clean official art for the infobox pic when possible, personally. ~ Kimbles 20:15, 19 June 2015 (MDT)
Empty headings[edit]
Please stop re-adding an empty "in the games" section on Medarots that only show up in one game. There's no reason for it to be there, and I'm getting tired of seeing it back on the page after I previously removed it. :/ (If you really have a problem with it, you should discuss the issue rather than starting an edit war over it.)
I also wanted to point out that you made a few really obvious mistakes on the navboxes when you were copy-pasting them to add the Shingata pages, like reverting Bluesdog to "DOG01" and changing the Charlie Bear link back to "Charlybear" on the Charlie Bear page. ._. There's nothing wrong with using the copy-paste method for this, but you do need to actually look at the edits you're making and make sure they're correct before adding them to multiple pages at once. All I'm going to ask is that you try to be more careful. ~ Kimbles 11:42, 2 July 2015 (MDT)
Concept art and portraits[edit]
Just a heads up, I'm going to be uploading a lot more concept art and dialogue portraits in the next couple days, so it might be better to hold off editing the pages now so you can add the pictures all at once. (It's better to combine edits when possible.) ~ Kimbles 21:19, 15 February 2016 (MST)
- Alright, I finished uploading everything I have for now. XD When you add the images, I recommend searching for the Medarot's name in the file namespace rather than going by the order I uploaded them in, just to make sure you get everything. *nod* I also added a help page on image galleries that's a bit clearer on the order/sections the pictures should go in. Let me know if you think it needs any changes. ~ Kimbles 19:33, 18 February 2016 (MST)
- I noticed you're putting the concept art before the regular official art in the galleries... I think it's better having the official art first since it's like the definitive picture of the Medarot, plus they're easier to make out than the concept art which you usually have to view full size to see clearly. I was thinking the best way to order the official art section would be: regular official art (in order of release) -> concept art -> detail concept art -> early concept art -> dialogue portraits, since that puts it in order of relevance. Let me know what you think. :P ~ Kimbles 00:27, 24 February 2016 (MST)
- I placed concept art first because that would come before u get the official art, But now that I think about it and the content, I get what you are saying. I have one question? Wouldn't this be the order of release -> early concept art -> concept art -> detail concept art -> dialogue portraits. ~ C0deB1ue 18:36, 24 February 2016 (MST)
- Yeah, that works too. I was thinking it would flow better with the concept art closest to the final design before the others, but I guess that's a bit confusing. ^^; Feel free to go with official art -> early concept art -> concept art -> detail concept art -> dialogue portraits. *nod* ~ Kimbles 19:13, 24 February 2016 (MST)

Large-scale image name changes[edit]
Just letting you know, I might not have a chance to go through and rename all of the files you marked for a while. :S Also for future reference, you can always just leave me a message saying "I think all of the files in this category should be renamed in this format" rather than marking them all with the template, since now we need to rename them AND remove all of the rename messages. :< ~ Kimbles 13:11, 8 March 2016 (MST)
- That makes a lot of sense. Will do better from now on and sorry for the trouble. C0deB1ue 13:18, 8 March 2016 (MST)
