Atheist (エイシイスト), known in English as Papyrak, is a longhorn beetle-type Medarot that first appeared in Medarot 2. Intended as a counterpart to Rokusho.

Description

In terms of abilities and design, Atheist is very similar to Rokusho. It has a sword on its right arm and a hammer on its left, is bipedal, and focuses on close-range combat. Unlike Rokusho, Atheist is pale greenish-brown in color, and has two tall backwards-curving antennae on its head. There are also two mandible-like pieces hanging from its cheeks, similar to Smilodonad.

Atheist's name is a pun stemming from the japanese word for longhorn beetles, kamikirimushi (カミキリムシ). While this literally means "hair-cutting bug" (髪切り虫), it can also be read as "god-cutting bug" (神切り虫), leading to the name "Atheist". Its english name origin is unknown, but may be based on papyrus.

The names of its head and leg parts are based on Rokusho's (Antenna and Tatacker). Tatakkiri comes from "Tatakikiru" (叩き切る, to hack down), and Mettakiller comes from "Mettakiri" (滅多切り, cut to pierces) and "killer". In the english version of Medarot 2 Core, its parts were known as Feeler, Metakiller, Thudarm, and Tatakick.

In the games

Atheist's parts have high attack power and accuracy, but very low armor. In Medarot 2 and R, its head part has the Scan action like Rokusho, but this was changed to Reinforce in Medarot 2 Core.

In Medarot 2

Like its partner Ambiguous, Atheist's parts are normally unobtainable. The player must use passwords for the parts or trade them over from the Parts Collection game. The passwords were officially listed in the February 2000 issue of Comic Bom Bom.

In Medarot R

Kouji Karakuchi has Atheist as his partner Medarot when you robottle him in a tournament.
