Meda 2043 (メダ2043, also known as Medarot 2043) is a short doujinshi series created by Rin Horuma under the pseudonym "Horu0rin" (ほる○りん).

It was released in 3 chapters from mid-2007 to mid-2008, discontinued a year before the announcement of Medarot DS. Being unofficial, the books had a very low print run and are difficult to find now. No full-chapter scans are known to exist.

Story[edit]

Not much is known about the plot, except that it's set in the year 2043 and the main character is named Ikki Tenryou (but isn't the same Ikki Tenryou from the series, they just have the same name). In the first chapter, he tries to transport his own Medarot (named Bakuto), but because of his name the database gets mixed up and it transports the original Ikki's Metabee instead.

Medarots[edit]

A few new Medarots appear in the series. The designs are similar to the new Medarots added in Medarot DS, with thin limbs and digital displays for faces.

  • Kia Cat (キアキャット) - A new CAT-type that appears in the first chapter.
  • Jofukia Beetle (ジョフキアビートル) - A new KBT-type with the model number KBT-2043. The name is thought to be an anagram of Fujioka. "KBT-2043" uses the style of model numbers found in the Rintarou manga, which specify the year the model was created.
  • Kuwagata Baizan also appears, possibly as a reference to the Medarot Navi manga.

Relation to Medarot DS[edit]

The Medarotches of 2043 are shown to be wrist-mounted devices with dual-screens that flip open (a design clearly inspired by the Nintendo DS, though likely made non-canon by the cellphone-style Medarotches in Medarot DS). If nothing else, the manga showed fans that Horuma Rin was still interested in the future of the franchise and was considering ways to change it so that it could work better as a DS game. Since there had been no Medarot news since Shingata Medarot had been released, the manga gathered a fair amount of interest from japanese fans.

No official reason was given for the series stopping after 3 chapters, but it's possible that it was cut short due to Horuma's involvement with Medarot DS. Shortly after the DS game was announced, Horu0rin's blog with information on Meda 2043 was taken down permanently.
