Charlie Bear (チャーリーベア), known in English as Churlybear, is a bear-type Medarot that first appeared in Medarot 2.

Description[edit]

Charlie Bear has a similar appearance to its predecessor Betty Bear, resembling a stuffed teddy bear with a zipper on its chest and a tag on its left ear (absent in its Medarot 2 Core sprite). Its head and limbs are larger than Betty Bear's, and its attack power and armor durability have been significantly improved. It specializes in gravity-based attacks, and can use its anti-gravity abilities to float just above the ground.

Its name was misread and changed to Churlybear in the English language releases.

In the games[edit]

Charlie Bear is a hover-type Medarot and one of the quintessential users of gravity-based attacks in Medarot 2, specializing in Break attacks (unlike Betty Bear, who uses Press). Its parts have the Gravity attribute and are highly compatible with the Bear Medal.

In Medarot 2/Core[edit]

Charlie Bear is used by the girl medarotters via random encounters in the school at the start of the game. And is also used by float medabots later in the game. When you progress further into the game, its parts can be purchased at the shop on the first floor of the medalink building.

In Medarot R[edit]

Is obtainable from the Part Collection by fighting フサク that is ranked opponent number 61.

In the anime[edit]

Charlie Bear appears in episode 9 of the original anime series where it is used by a group of preschoolers known as "The Crushers" (クラッシャーズ), or "The Ankle Biters" in the English version. Iwanoi, who was having trouble winning battles with his Cyandog and its incompatible Medal, confronts the children hoping for an easy win. However, Cyandog was easily defeated by Charlie Bear's powerful weaponry, including a powerful laser beam and an anti-gravity beam that renders the opponent helpless.

Iwanoi later challenged the Crushers to a rematch, using a more compatible arm for his Cyandog loaned to him by Ikki. While Cyandog does somewhat better than in the previous match, it still gets hit by the Gravity Beam. Luckily, in the process of throwing Cyandog around, Charlie Bear accidentally ended up launching its foe into itself, knocking itself out and giving Iwanoi the victory.
